Going by rankings in the U.S. Space Force, Colonel would be one step up from Major, which is Silvia's rank. Plus the Black Lilith's website list her rank as 大佐 which translated to Colonel, granted I don't if they changed that in the actual game.

It also translates to Captain when used in a naval context. I've been treating the three branches of the Space Force separately, rather than equating them to marines, which appear to use army ranks. That may change. I've gone through a lot of revisions when it comes to these terms.

One of the problems I have to consider is how obnoxious it's going to be to use certain ranks as often as they're used in the original Japanese text. Ensign Claire is a lot less of a mouthful than Second Lieutenant Claire, with the latter becoming undeniably grating if you have to read it too often. In a moment of tension, or fast-paced action scene, the two-syllable rank flows better. But you can only translate it as Ensign if you interpret it as a naval rank. I might just have to say "screw it", and mix and match as needed.
