Did you learn about the word copypasta when I mentioned it in a previous ask? (If it helps, here's the link: https://rattanmantrans.blogspot.com/2023/02/anonymous-asked-so-when-i-was-preparing.html#comments)

No, it turns out I've been on the Internet for more than a week.

Anonymous asked:

So, Knowing that you like asshole characters, do you like Rance from Rance series?

Decent character, from what I've seen. But as I said a week or two ago, I only ever played about 80% of a route of Sengoku Rance, so that's the most exposure I have to him.

Also, i have been asking this to "knowledgeable" persons in the visual novel medium (well you probably dont care what i do) but, how big do you think the visual novel community is? (only """"hardcore"""" visual novels like "moeges", "kamiges" and "nukiges", excluding things like danganronpa and ace attorney) I would say it is like 5000 weirdos or so.

That heavily depends on how you define "community" in the first place. Do we mean people who actively pay attention to the VN world and discuss it online, or do we just mean everybody who plays them? Are we extending this to players of low-effort Western games that look like they were shat out directly from Tumblr's anus?

That aside, here are some quick stats that I can find:

  • The VN subreddit has over 500 000 members.
  • One prepatched torrent of TY2 alone has over 10 000 downloads since late 2020.
  • Doki Doki Literature Club had a peak of 7400 concurrent users on Steam. Less flavour-of-the-month VNs seem to reach a peak of a few hundred.
So, as we can see, the number is probably somewhere between a few hundred and half a million. Hope that helps.

Would you at any point of time do the translation of Tsuma Netori ~Onnakyoushi no Choukyou Nisshi~

Yes.

Anonymous asked:

Would you attempt using GPT4 for your translations to see how well it does?

I don't intend to touch it at all, at least for a good long while. There's ample reason not to trust OpenAI, and knowing how these companies work, it's only a matter of time before somebody puts in a little blocker to stop it producing any outputs that are "unsafe". That said, I am curious to see if it can decode slurred speech yet, because I'm pretty damn sure DeepL can't.

Anonymous asked:

Could you add Gyakushuu https://vndb.org/v2555 to the translate list please?

Okay. By coincidence, this is actually a series I've been curious about for some time. If I remember correctly, I heard somewhere that Nephrinn from Dark Translations tried to do the fourth game and found it unpatchable. But, of course, that will have been over ten years ago by this point, and it's possible the situation has changed.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think translation tools will ever be able to incorporate context for japanese

Yes. I would have been slightly more skeptical a few months ago, but at this point, I think it's only a matter of time. I've heard that GPT4 can translate things better than DeepL—which isn't all that high a bar, as I've complained in the past. But my main problem with modern machine translation is that it's trying to "cheat", by focusing on making the output convincing, rather than actually producing a more accurate translation. With recent advances, we now have AI that can identify and explain the logic behind a joke, and that's the same kind of understanding that a computer would require to translate a context-heavy language.

Assuming that AI actually did reach the point where it made human translation obsolete, you would only need two things. To start with, you would have to change the nature of text hooking programs to let the computer know what the context was in the first place. And secondly, you would need an open source AI rather than a commercial one, because inevitably some asshole ethicist is going to tamper with it and make it useless for our purposes.

Anonymous asked:

I want to know which do you prefer Guilty Or Lilith

I don't think I've ever played a Guilty game.

Anonymous asked:

Is it easy for you to hate characters/games/etc?

Mainly if they're persistently annoying, and I can't get away from them. For example, in RPGX, I want to kill Momoka with a hammer. But most of the time, if I don't like something, I just put it out of my mind and forget about it.

Anonymous asked:

Would you be open to translating RPGX scenes for pay ?

I don't think there's a point to that. There's going to be an official localization soon-ish, supposedly. That's the main reason why I've barely done any of them, apart from Christmas gifts and scenes that tie in with the games.

Anonymous asked:

Do you know what happened to the Taima Seikou Alice patch? Was it ever finished? I can't find the finished or even incomplete version anywhere.

I don't recall hearing about it being finished. I think either most or all of the scenes were finished, but the story was left untranslated. But then, I also think I'm right in saying that it was based on a machine translation, and so on that basis, you might as well try and find the MTL patch that's listed on VNDB.

Anonymous asked:

when are you going to decide on the next translation project?

It was looking pretty decided a few weeks ago, to be honest. I started on Tsuma Netori earlier this month, and just haven't gotten to a 5% milestone until now.

Anonymous asked:

What do you think about Butcha-U art style?

I think he's really good for humans x creatures sex scene, but for vanilla sex he's not that good. I really like his female model overall, they have a good variety of body shape.

I think it's decent, but his faces look weirdly flat to me.

Anonymous asked:

Any chance for your next project to be Ma Furu Yoru no Rin? I saw it requested elsewhere but wondering how far down the list its at right now.

It's not in the top five, but it's decently high up. It's one of a few games that (if we exclude Taima Seiko Alice and Seigi no Henshin Blah Blah Blah for the usual reasons) stand a decent chance of getting into a high position.

That said, Tsuma Netori has a pretty sizeable lead over it—by recent standards, at least. The current top spot has less than half as many requests as TY2 did when it was in that position, and there's only about a 20-request gap between #1 and #10. We're slowly getting to the point where even games with a dozen requests might become contenders.

Anonymous asked:

would you be partial to translating H manga as well ?

I'm not that keen. I did a test run once, and found it obnoxious. That said, if there happened to be some official spin-off manga for a game I did (as opposed to an adaptation), then I wouldn't be against it.

Anonymous asked:

Hey thx for your translating, really appreciate your work..

Recently i am trying to translate some rpgx scene with machine translation.. but idk how to input it into the viewer.. do you know how to do it?

I don't think my method would help. I just take the readable version of a scene's script, translate it, and then find-and-replace the line breaks with code that the viewer's massive script file can understand. But I always do this with the aim of just distributing a scene or two, so I'm actually replacing the entire catalogue of scenes. If you were to paste new content into your script data file, it would get overwritten the next time you updated the viewer. I believe they added a translation feature at some point to facilitate this very thing, but I'm so used to the old way that I never looked into it.

Anonymous asked:

Could you translate "Kuro No Utahime"?

I can add it to the requests list. As usual, no promises that it will get picked, or that it can even be patched in the first place.

Anonymous asked:

Hi rattan, thanks for translating taimanin asagi 2!

That was actually not one of mine. I just ported that from the old Dark Translations/Iceslide patch.

If you have time could you translate "Maint Maiya - Manctuary Juuni Shikyuu Hen" please?

I'll write that down, but I don't think Valkyria games can be patched, unfortunately.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think yukikaze would be hotter fully tanned, fully untanned, or with tan lines (as she is now)

Fully tanned would make no difference. Fully untanned is an abomination.

Anonymous asked:

Why do you think yukikaze from taimanin and Marie from dead or alive do so well in their respective popularity polls? Is it because they are the only loli in the roster and thus draw all the lolicon votes, or do they appeal to a lot of people.

No idea. I'm not in those people's heads. Or am I?

I know a lot of people just like Yukikaze's design, for whatever reason. That's probably the major factor.

Anonymous asked:

I heard Rinko is a fan-favorite, do you know if that's true or not?

I think all the mainline characters are favourites, except for Ayame. I don't know what their relative popularity is, but there are lots of fans for every one of them.

Anonymous asked:

Would you ever translate no-vn games, like Vitamin Quest 2?

I suppose I could, but I'm reluctant to do anything with gameplay, because of how much more difficult that might be to playtest.

Anonymous asked:

Oni Harami no Miko - Kyouran Mugen Jutai Jigoku ni Otsu

Hi can I kindly request a translation for this game ?

Okay, noted.

Anonymous asked:

Have you ever played rance eroge series? If you had, what are your opinions?

I played most of a route in Sengoku Rance once upon a time. I was on the back foot, so I ground for hours until I was in a clearly advantageous position. This was at the point when you have to go and save Kenshin, and I didn't know that you had to do it within three turns, or she would be dead when you got there. So I missed my chance to accomplish what I was trying to, and then shortly after, the game timeskipped to a point where I had conquered most of the map, thus rendering all my grinding pointless. I was so annoyed that I never touched the series again.

Will we ever have a character like rance in modern eroges?

I can't think of any reason why not. Modern games aren't necessarily tame, even with all the ethics bullshit.
