What is the reason you won't do a translation for a game that some other translator is also doing? I think you have built up quite a huge following and the quality of your work speaks for itself. You have also mentioned that you don't do this for money so what is stopping you from saying screw those other translators and just doing whatever the hell game you fancy. I for one really appreciate your work and think you are by far the best translator of eroges out there.

Redundancy. This isn't like the manga world, where it's not a big deal to have multiple competing translations. Doing VNs takes a load of time, so it's not worth the effort if someone else gets there first, and all you're really doing is supplying the public with a slightly different version of what they already have. If two translators are going to waste months of their time on something, would you prefer that it result in two new games in English, or one game in English twice?

The same logic applies in reverse to games that seem likely to get localized, because people naturally gravitate towards whatever the official translation is. You may release a patch years before it gets picked up, but that translation will ultimately be made superfluous, so you could have spent your time on something else. That's why I was always iffy about doing games like Kuroinu 2, because I was sure that MangaGamer would pick it up and render my effort redundant.

Are crotch tattoos good character design?

Not necessarily. But, like any tattoos you don't remember getting, they are a sign of a good night out.

Anonymous asked:

Soredemo Tsuma o Ai Shiteru 1. You think you'd ever want to translate this? or the 2nd part?

If its something you haven't thought about, I want to request you translate this.

It's a possibility. It has had some requests, but it's not very high on the list.

I was looking for retro VN's with lactation in them (stop judging me, lol). Could you add "Orga Fighter Ayana -Departure-", "gyakushuu" series, "Ma ga Ochiru Yoru Demonic Princess", "Ore Maou! ~Kudake Chitta Tamashii (Ore) no Kakera o Shuushuu Seyo!~" and "Eden's ritter 2"? The last 2 are not retro. Thank you for all your work and dedication!

Okay.

Anonymous asked:

Which Lilith vocal song do you think you've listened to the most? I think mine is Kono Te De from Mahou Shoujo Isuka.

Duel Gate, the Taimanin Kurenai theme.

Anonymous asked:

Since almost all the good lilith vn are out. What about Fukushuu no Onna Shikan Haine ~Shitai ni Kizamareru In'yoku no Program~ or Ran→Sem ~Hakudaku Delmo Tsuma no Miira Tori

One of them is already on the list, but they're both distant possibilities at this point.

Anonymous asked:

In tsuma there was a line about how the MC had to spend 6 months to break in the principal. Why the hell didnt we get that story, sounds a lot more interesting than the MILF we ended up with.

Don't ask me. Ask ZIZ, who are keen to tell any story in the Tsuma Netori setting apart from that one.

Anonymous asked:

Which part of translating VNs would you say is the easiest (or at least tends to be the easiest) for you?

Sound effects, because I don't even bother with them.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think jerking off to eroge everyday can make our brain retarded in the long term?

Maybe. Thinking about it, that's probably what happened to me.

Anonymous asked:

Which hentai doujinshi have do you recall reading if any?

I must have read hundreds of them over the years. There's no way I would remember any specifics.

Anonymous asked:

What are your thought on NekoNyan sending a C&D to the fan-translator of Sakura Moyu, forcing them to stop the translation even though they already spend hundreds of hours on it. This happened despite the fact that NekoNyan haven't even picked up Sakura Moyu for localization yet.

I have heard nothing about that, so I don't know any details. If they haven't licensed the game, then a cease and desist letter shouldn't have any legal weight to it. It could be taken as a warning that something is about to be picked up, but there's no inherent reason to obey it.

Is this gonna affect how you translate and what works you choose in the future?

No. I'm already in a situation where every single available option is at risk of being sniped. I consider the huge amount of localization that goes on these days to be more of a threat than that kind of situation.

Will you be the one to lift the curse cast upon translations for Noble&Knightess? The translators for the image set and the VN have gone radio silent about their respective projects, despite promises from both that they'd complete them. Become the hero the people need. Become the Warrior of Light.

It's relatively high up on the list, so it's possible. But then, it's not so high up that I'll be picking it anytime soon. By the time I ever get around to it, it will be very clear whether those projects really have been dropped or not.

bitcomet asked:

Can you please translate ケンカが強くてクールで強気の不良彼女が弱い僕を庇って汚されます or it's English title "Tough Street Girlfriend Protected My Weak Ass and Paid the Ultimate Price". The game is short,  just 5 hours long.

I'll note that on the requests list, but it doesn't get any extra priority for length. I don't know how many actual lines that translates into.

Anonymous asked:

Can you add Maint Maiya - Manctuary Juuni Shikyuu Hen?

Okay.

Anonymous asked:

Can you add 1 vote for

Hitozuma wa Moto Mahou Shoujo ~Kakyuu Sentouin Datta Ore ga Chikan o Kurikaeshi Netori Otosu

Okay.

Anonymous asked:

For you, what tends to be the hardest part of translating a VN?

I find that there are certain scenes where, out of nowhere, things just get irritatingly difficult for no good reason. Archaic words; heavy dialect-based slang I'm not familiar with; serious ambiguities; things genuinely just not making sense because there's an error in the prose; simple concepts that are difficult to rephrase in English without rewriting the whole damn sentence; etc.

I think the way it works in some games is that the main writer takes care of most of the scenes, and a secondary writer covers the side characters' scenes. So in one scene, everything will be simple, easy to phrase, unambiguous and fairly quick to do. And then the next scene, I'll have to keep stopping constantly to look up some word, or question which of several ways to interpret an unfinished sentence, or figure out how to turn a massive run-on sentence into something readable. It becomes annoyingly stop-start, and kills my momentum.

Of course, technically, the hardest part would be when I have to convey some kind of double entendre in dialogue. I think I spent a couple of hours on a single one in TY2.

Anonymous asked:

Is meiki a real japanese term or did BL make it up for tsuma netori

Not only is it a real term, but it's a very old one, dating back to (I believe) the 19th century. The word more generally refers to a famously top-quality specimen of something, with most dictionaries citing a Stradivarius as an example. The same logic is applied when using it euphemistically, but with the added nuance of there being several specific subtypes of vagina under its umbrella.

The thing that pissed me off with regards to Tsuma Netori is that I couldn't find or think of a single approximation which worked with every sentence in which they use that term. It's clearly being used as a technical term, a category, and they use it just as much to refer to the anus, or the women themselves. Words like masterpiece or treasure were too generic, phrases like "superb vagina" too specific to one orifice, and anything else I came up with was just too stupid.

Anonymous asked:

Why do all the childhood friends and housewives end up getting fucked by ugly men, while monster girls and villainesses get the handholding romance sex?

The bad girls have a better union.

Anonymous asked:

Would you translate an erotic version of war and peace?

I would be dead before I finished that one.

Also could you add a vote to the translation of gyakushuu that other commenter below mentioned? That one's cg list looks like it is basically fantasy taimanin.

Okay.

Anonymous asked:

Will there be a point where you'll refuse translating something because its just unreasonable at this point to ask one man to work on these projects alone?

Maybe if a game were truly massive.

Also, what about you? What are the VNs that you want to translate?

I don't have any particular ambitions anymore. At this point, I naturally expect anything that looks promising to be picked up for localization. Any time I consider something like Inyouchuu or Kuroinu, there's a surprise announcement from someone.

Anonymous asked:

Can you disclose the current top 5 VNs with the most votes for translation?

In alphabetical order: Kouyoku Senki ExS-Tia, Mama wa Taimanin, Ore to Saeko-san to Netorare Mail, Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu, and Tentacle and Witches.

Keep in mind that this is not quite based on number of requests anymore (although that doesn't change the general picture very much). In an attempt to avoid another Tsuma Netori situation, I'm experimenting with using VNDB scores as a modifier, so that perception of quality factors into the rankings. Also note that I haven't looked into doing ExS-Tia at all (and would not be surprised to see it get localized), and that Mama may or may not be a possibility, depending on how far Johren takes their Taimanin localization.

Anonymous asked:

Eden's ritter 2 and the gyakushuu series please?

I'll note that down. I figure Eden's Ritter 2 will probably get localized at some point. I'm not as concerned about that with Gyakushuu, but I also don't know if it can be worked on. I think I read/somebody told me once that Nephrinn tried to do Gyakushuu 4, but he couldn't patch it at the time.

Anonymous asked:

Mind translating "Shinnyuu Seiboshin Arya ~Seiboshin sura Inchuu Bounyuu Kaizou Seme de Dametsu Suru!"?

I can add that to the bajillion things on the list.

Anonymous asked:

Is Ore to Saeko-san to Netorare Mail in the list??

Yes.

Could you tell me how high?? I'd like to add a vote to that one please and thank you.

Top 5.

Anonymous asked:

Do you recall finding the cast of characters in Starless as boring as you found the story to be?

The cast is fine. The boringness comes from the repetition, which contributes to the fact that every sex scene is about three times as long as it needs to be.

Anonymous asked:

why do you like translating black lilith games?

I'm not as attached to the brand as you would think. I mainly just wanted to do the Taimanin games and a few others, and in so doing, I became "the Lilith guy". I like a number of things about their approach, such as the deadpan mix of serious and pornographic elements, and the fact that they can go into strange, dark or extreme territory. That said, I equally dislike some of their negative aspects, such as teasing lesbianism or almost-certain pregnancy, and then never goddamn showing it.

Anonymous asked:

Just curious, was there an official statement saying RPGX is doing far better than TABA did?

No, but it obviously is. For starters, it still exists. After year three, Japanese TABA was practically devoid of content, relying heavily on rerun events while they geared up for RPGX and TA0. By that point, the popularity of the game had slipped so much that you could easily get within the top 20 000 places in the event rankings without even trying. A year later, they had replaced it with a new gacha and cancelled it. RPGX has not only outlasted TABA, but it's still frequently high in the DMM rankings, and they show no signs of getting rid of it.

Anonymous asked:

What is the number of different games in your request list? Around 50 or so?

362. Which, by my calculations, will only take me about 296 years.

Anonymous asked:

Top 15 next games to be translated? I don't want to feel like a Chinese man waiting for a male heir.

They're not whichever one you want, that's for sure. There's a good chance the next one after Alice will be Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu, simply because I don't know how long I can wait for that guy to come back from the dead. Apart from that, it's dependant on what the list looks like at the time.

Cardofem asked:

Are you interested in working on older Black Lilith titles, specifically Himekishi Lilia? I feel like that era had more heart - Armored Warrior Isis was pretty good. Much better than later Taimanin titles, that's for sure.

I’m fine with doing that. Unlike other companies, I can be pretty assured, without even looking, that the engine is workable. However, I don’t think I’m going to get as many requests for them as newer games with bigger, brighter CGs.

That said, Lilia is always sort of on my radar, because I still remember waiting eagerly for the supposed translation patch back on Hongfire. (It's totally coming any day now, just after SatinCreamDelight gets hit by a car and deletes everything for no reason again. NO, YOU CAN'T QUESTION THAT, I NEARLY DIED.)

Anonymous asked:

What sort of games/requests will you absolutely NOT translate?

I'm mainly looking to avoid games that seem like they might be officially picked up, as that would obviously be a waste of my time. And I suppose I wouldn't do a yaoi game, because it wouldn't be of interest to the audience this blog has. Apart from that, there aren't any particular limits.

Anonymous asked:

can i request  Samayou Midara na Lunatics ~Tsuki no Hime Otogi Zoushi~ or Kyonyuu Princess Saimin "Gesen na Anata no Mono o... Nchu, Njurururu... Rero, Shabuttari Suru Mono Desu ka! ? thanks man

Noted.

Anonymous asked:

Why don't you translate shorter games more often? Probably less tiring and more content at a time. Also the anons in taimanin general seem noticeably disappointed with your last release and say it was just one guy who asked for it repeatedly in the forum and it held up better games. Doesn't really affect me though since I only watch other people's play-through after hopefully searching if someone previously uploaded a series I was looking for.

I think I would have noticed if there were a major influx of requests from one person. The way the requests list works, I count requests cumulatively, so that games which have a medium level of popularity can work their way up to the top over time, and not just be constantly overshadowed by whatever the flavour of the month is. The problem last time was (a) there's still an outside chance that the guy who was doing Seigi no Henshin Blah Blah Blah isn't dead; and (b) I was advised not to do Taima Seiko Alice yet for the same reason, and nobody countered that advice. I figured that if I'm trying to serve the interests of the public, then there's no point in me just ignoring the feedback they give me and doing whatever I want, and boy am I not going to follow that logic again anytime soon.

As for why Tsuma Netori got picked specifically, there was a huge gap between the two aforementioned games and everything else that's left. So it basically came down to a choice between Tsuma Netori and Ore to Saeko-san to Netorare Mail, and they were surprisingly neck-and-neck: every time one took the lead, the other would then catch up almost immediately. I didn't personally care, because they both looked as boring as each other, so when Tsuma Netori developed a decent lead at the right time, that was all there was to it.

But yeah, shorter games and why not?

There's no real reason, other than they're nowhere near the top of the list. I have actually done shorter titles before, when I did partial patches for those couple of IZM games. That was before I was so reliant on requests, as it was pretty obvious that any Taimanin game would be in high demand. Even Tsuma Netori was technically shorter than average; it's just that I was slowed down for months and months.

Anonymous asked:

Is My Elf Elder Sister on the requests list? Thank you bro (and enjoy your break).

Yes.

Anonymous asked:

What do you think about the direction lilith is heading towards? Are you optimistic about the future of the company?

They're clearly not in any particular trouble as a company. RPGX is doing a lot better than TABA ever did. It's surprising (and unfortunate for the people who worked on them) that they've unceremoniously done away with Taimanin TV, Idol Taimanin and Taimanin Gogo all of a sudden, but there's good reason that the latter two never worked. It looks like they've reached the end of their "throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks" phase, and they did just experiment in getting a minor VN out. So there's cause to be optimistic, although realistically, I think the most we can hope for is to return from "not making VNs" to "occasionally making mediocre VNs".

Anonymous asked:

Do you prefer Kurenai or Ayame? I prefer the former because I feel she has more character (though to be fair to both I haven't read most of Taimanin Kurenai).

Kurenai has a lot more personality. Ayame is too boring.

Anonymous asked:

Speaking of voice acting which voice of Igawa Asagi do you like best? I like Sakura Nagomi from the Taimanin Asagi 2 OVA. She is the frankly best sounding of her list of VA's, sounds youngish and alluring as opposed to the games which make her sound older and a bit intentionally annoying. What do you think? Any other VA's you like otherwise?

I've come to increasingly prefer her TA0 voice.
