Judging from the games you've played/translated thus far, would you say Lilith games have good voice acting?

I wouldn't say it's anything to do with Lilith, apart from their particular selections of voice actress. Virtually everybody they hire also does work for all the other companies. Overall, it's always decent at least, and sometimes very good. There are some standout cases where I think the voice actors particularly excel, and one that comes immediately to mind is the original voice for Rinko, particularly with the emotional lines in TY2.

As an aside, it's interesting to see how closely all the various actors follow the script when it comes to sound effects. Some of them will just make whatever sounds they like to suit the kind of effects that are in the script, whereas others are very meticulous about following every little sound. It's particularly interesting when you get a duo or group scene, where one actress is interpreting sound effects very liberally and another is closely following what's written down.

How do I get my girlfriend to stop playing the games you've translated? She's so obsessed with them that she suddenly brought up the idea of cucking me with another man the other day.

You should just tell her I'm available. That'll put her right off the whole thing.

Anonymous asked:

How would I know what a dick looks like, they're all pixelated.

Well, exactly. They're all made of Lego. Unless you splurge on the K'nex model.

Anonymous asked:

Will you ever considering posting dick pics as a (late) Christmas present?

Why? If you don't know what a dick looks like by now, I don't know what to tell you.

Anonymous asked:

Will you still be maintaining the blog while youre taking a break? I dont think I could live without a parasocial relationship with you.

Yes, but good to know I have the power of life and death over you.

Anonymous asked:

Does this mean there is a way to download a fully-translated version of TABA? I haven't been around chans and such in a long, long time.

I believe so. I haven't bothered keeping up with the TABA translations, but I assume they were all being added. Search around for "Taimanin Asagi Battle Arena Perfect Viewer".

Anonymous asked:

Will you be taking a break from translating?

Yes, but not as long as previous years.

On request, I have translated the final scene from Taimanin Asagi Battle Arena, which I'm told the official localizers couldn't be bothered with. I will say that it's absolutely nothing special, but at least it completes your collections. It's also a good way to pay tribute to the memory of TABA, which is now finally, completely dead, and I don't miss it one bit. Rot in hell with your 0.0000000001% drop rates.

Anonymous asked:

Do you prefer comedic villains or serious villains?

Either is fine, as long they're done well. Everything comes down to execution.

Anonymous asked:

Hello, a quick question, since Black lilith gonna release a Kangoku Senkan 4 at some point in the future (i hope...). What, from your pov, will be the best way to end the saga? Two ending (bad and good, depending on wich side you are)? One canon? Bogan should win anyway or the girls freeing themselves from his mind control and killing him should be the way?

They're not going to change the format. It's been the same in every game. I think the best you can hope for is that they do for Kangoku Senkan what they did for Taimanin Asagi in 3: plot heavy, big stakes, a large ensemble cast of favourites in addition to the two new characters, etc. They should probably have a canonical ending that makes Bogan shadow ruler of the solar system or something, but that's only if they really intend to end the series. And I don't think Lilith would ever deliberately close the book on anything with sequel potential, just in case.

Anonymous asked:

Have you tried reading through an AI translated VN and see how good it did?

No, but I have ample reason not to trust them. AI is going to dramatically improve machine translation, but I don't think we're at the point where you can just sit back and rely on it yet. And the kind of people who put out MTL patches frankly don't put the effort in to make sure the computer got it right; they think that all they have to do is change a few words where the output is obviously wrong, and that's good enough. Now, once we have more specialized linguistic AI, which can infer things from context instead of blindly guessing, then it'll be worth looking at.

There's not a lot to talk about with this release. Chronologically, it takes place before the noted anime series, but apart from two characters and the school setting, they have very little in common.

I was attempting to avoid excessive transliteration, but you'll notice that I got stuck on the word meiki. (In case you don't know, it's an overarching term for a legendarily high-quality vagina, with several subtypes.) Normally, I can solve this issue with a tiny bit of rephrasing, albeit at the cost of nuance. However, around halfway through, the script begins using the word frequently, often in ways which necessitate that it be treated like a technical term. I came up with several words for it, but I was unable to think of anything that worked in every single situation. So it's stuck as Meiki, and if anybody can think of the perfect word, feel free to suggest it, because I came dangerously close to using "wundercunt".

There's a tiny little hint of cut content. There are four unused variants of the CG where Makoto has sex with Takafumi. The action is identical, but Makoto has a more composed (possibly condescending) expression, and the final image has a camcorder HUD imposed over it. Here is the image censored, because Google has started to be a bitch about these things:

Anonymous asked:

What's next to be translated?

Taima Seiko Alice.

Anonymous asked:

Is Tsuma Netori annoying to translate/work on?

Somewhat, but it's not a huge deal. I'm having to be more liberal in my phrasing than I prefer, and that's also coincidentally the case with the last TABA scene. There are certain writing styles that require a lot more reworking than others to have them make sense in English, and that can be a pain.

Anonymous asked:

What do you think about lactation scenes?

They do nothing in particular for me.

Anonymous asked:

Hi Rattan, what VNs are you translating right now?

Almost done with Tsuma Netori, thank Christ.

Anonymous asked:

Do you have a list somewhere I could see?

No. I don't make the requests list public.

Anonymous asked:

Have you ever thought of doing the Lilith voice CDs, like subtitling one of them? I don't know if there would be a way to do that without converting the audio file to a video one.

I would need a transcript to work off of. I am way too out of practice when it comes to listening comprehension.

Anonymous asked:

In your opinion why do ero gachas succeed in Japan but barely succeed in the west?

It's the same answer as always. Japan has a somewhat mainstream industry for eroge. In the West, they're too much of a niche. I've seen Taimanin references in manga, Japanese variety shows, the news, etc. New Rance games can get major magazine coverage. You definitely don't have the culture for that over here.

Anonymous asked:

Tits or ass?

I really don't care.

Anonymous asked:

Hello Rattan can you translate this trilogy when you have the time? They are only 9 hours of playtime combined. https://vndb.org/v8644 / https://vndb.org/v10996 / https://vndb.org/v14193

I've already made a note of that. Obviously, I can't promise anything for the usual combination of reasons, but I have put those down on the list.

Oh shit, just read that there was a auto-filter for questions, oops.

It's not really an auto-filter; we don't have that level of technology here. I'm actually just copying and pasting questions out of emails. The thing is, I tend not to respond to a message publicly unless there's a question involved. If I reposted everything that got sent to me, the front page of the blog would appear uninteresting to the majority of people at best, and smug and self-congratulatory at worst.

Anonymous asked:

Was Hyouryuu Kangoku Chronos annoying for you to translate?

Not for the most part. The initial space battle was obnoxious because I'm not as familiar with sci-fi vocabulary, but it was nowhere near as bad as I'd feared for a monster game.

Anonymous asked:

Do japanese really hate gajin? I thought we built up a bond of brotherhood by masturbating to the same big tiddie ninjas getting violated by tentacles.

Yes. WAITO PIGGU GO HOMU.

Anonymous asked:

Why do you think many japanese product (mainly games) doesn't get released in global market and only targeted their own domestic market? Every mainstream anime & gacha games are now produced by the koreans and chinese company, even though japanese was the pioneer in this market before. DO THEY DON'T WANT MY MONEY? LOOK AT GENSHIN IMPACT, HONKAI STAR RAIL, BLUE ARCHIVE. THEY ALL GETTING RICH FROM MILKING ALL THE WEEB'S WALLET. WHY CAN'T THE JAPANESE JUST COPY THIS!!!

The Japanese just don’t care that much about the rest of the world. To them, there’s Japanese and Not Japanese, and they don’t see a great need to care about the latter group.

Anonymous asked:

Snake Lady gives you a present. Do you accept? (For the record, this is based on some anniversary thing on RPGX which had Snake Lady gives Fuuma or maybe the player a login bonus item or something like that, and says it's "not poisonous or anything".)

Yes. And then I ditch it the second she’s out of sight and run like hell.

Anonymous asked:

Just wondering, did it sound like I was trying to imply you watched all KS3 H-scenes in my question from yesternight? If so, that wasn't my intent.

No, but that doesn't matter in the slightest.

Anonymous asked:

Hi, hope you're doing good.

Someone asked who's your favorite character from Lilith and you said KS2 Bogan, what's the main difference with the KS1 and KS3 Bogan? I played the three of them, and maybe because i'm not a native english speaker, but i didn't get any variation or subtility in writing with Bogan, except he was definitly better than the dude in Kangoku Academia...

It's not a matter of linguistic differences. Bogan in KS1 is a pathetic character. There's nothing to him, and the thing he's resentful about was basically his own fault. He doesn't engage in any particularly interesting subterfuge or anything like that. From KS2 onwards, he's a cunning super-spy, who is capable of going undercover in a major position, manipulating people and politics, and wresting control of a small nation to turn it into a galactic military force to be reckoned with—and not to fulfill his mission, but to elevate himself above all others, including the faction who used to employ him. That's an inherently more interesting character than some nobody who got butthurt about facing consequences for his actions. Hell, as I recall, in KS3 he gave himself leukemia just so that his plans would work.

Anonymous asked:

Besides the H-scenes you watched in Kangoku Senkan 3, have you seen any other H-scenes from RunQ-translated VNs?

No. I haven't even finished KS3 in all these years. I typically don't have the time to get into these things anymore.

Anonymous asked:

Are there any characters (at least Lilith characters) that you dislike as characters but like their designs? For me, I kinda like No. 16 Sonia's design, but I don't really like her as a character much.

I don't care about design that much. I like or dislike characters based on their personality, whether they're annoying or not, etc.

Anonymous asked:

What appeals the most in black lilith titles. The extreme sex or the corruption, or something else? Could you consider masturbating to rough bedbreaking consensual vanilla sex?

I just want something novel and interesting. It doesn't have to be rape. Everything comes down to the variety of the ideas and the execution. When it comes to Lilith specifically, I also like that they create settings which could just as easily work on their own, without the pornography.

Anonymous asked:

Even ignoring the ending (which I recall you stating is BS), do you think Wanko to Kurasou is a bad VN?

It was okay, but I wouldn't say it was anything special.

Anonymous asked:

Best written Lilith protagonist in your opinion?

Of the games I've played, Kiryuu, followed by KS2 Bogan. None of them are especially great, but those two are a little more machiavellian.

Anonymous asked:

What do you think of the nipple penetration genre? Thats pretty much my only draw to the taimanin series, 2 in particular along with a couple scenes in the gacha games. They are also a staple for some reason in valkyrie studio games, but you say that they cannot be translated because of their engine. Which sucks because that genre is pretty rare otherwise and not even a tag on most hentai streaming sites.

That's one of those fetishes that I can take or leave.

Anonymous asked:

(I tried commenting on the previous post but it wouldn't let me) Not OP, but what do you think of this figure or of Velvet Crowe in general/her character design if you know of her or the "tales of" series? https://otakumode.com/shop/5c6dea432a655caa187a56b4/Tales-of-Berseria-Velvet-Crowe-1-8-Scale-Figure

I think her design is okay, if a little over-complicated. I'm not familiar with the source material, so I can't judge if it's a good likeness.

Anonymous asked:

What do you think of anime figures

I am almost entirely apathetic towards them.

Anonymous asked:

Hey Rattan, was wondering whether or not the recent Yukikaze/Rinko duo scenes in RPGX could conceivably fit in the narrative of Taimanin Yukikaze 1? If yes, could it theoretically be possible to patch them into the game like you did with Kurenai?

They can technically be put in the game, but they're not part of the same story or timeline. They can't fit in organically, unlike scenes that were specifically made as promotion for the games.

Also, can I selfishly ask if there's any chance for Rantta Clause to translate said scenes as a Christmas present?

Probably not. I'm not planning on doing RPGX scenes regularly anymore, now that I know for a fact that they'll be made redundant within five years. I would only do it if a lot of people wanted it, and I would have to know fairly early. I've already got that missing TABA scene to do, on top of trying to get Tsuma Netori out before the end of the year.

Anonymous asked:

Would you be willing to translate more prgx scenes i dont know how much time or energy it would take but it would greatly be appreciated by the community. And i am being a snob when i say that i prefer your translations over others official and otherwise. There are too many people who make liberal translations of the vn's

I would do it if there were a really strong demand for it. That said, I don't think most of the community actually cares, as long as they get something. And apart from some strange localization decisions like "Devildom", I don't see anybody particularly complaining about the quality of Johren's translation.

Anonymous asked:

Most annoying Lilith character?

There are too many miscellaneous ones to consider at this point, but I've always been irritated by Saya.

Anonymous asked:

Is there a better software than Deep L to translate japanese to english?

Not as far as I've tested. I haven't tried the most sophisticated AIs, but I have been led to believe that they currently produce the best results. (At the cost of being censored, of course.) However, both GPT and DeepL still have the problem where instead of translating, or even paraphrasing, they will just start making stuff up. And if you need to rely on machine translation to understand something, you obviously won't be able to tell when this is happening or not happening. It's the same reason why you shouldn't rely on AI to report on anything factual: they're not magic Googling tools as much as random text generators that happen to have some knowledge in their databases.

Anonymous asked:

Do you ever buy physical editions of visual novels?

No. It's not worth the inflated import price.
