What is the reason you won't do a translation for a game that some other translator is also doing? I think you have built up quite a huge following and the quality of your work speaks for itself. You have also mentioned that you don't do this for money so what is stopping you from saying screw those other translators and just doing whatever the hell game you fancy. I for one really appreciate your work and think you are by far the best translator of eroges out there.

Redundancy. This isn't like the manga world, where it's not a big deal to have multiple competing translations. Doing VNs takes a load of time, so it's not worth the effort if someone else gets there first, and all you're really doing is supplying the public with a slightly different version of what they already have. If two translators are going to waste months of their time on something, would you prefer that it result in two new games in English, or one game in English twice?

The same logic applies in reverse to games that seem likely to get localized, because people naturally gravitate towards whatever the official translation is. You may release a patch years before it gets picked up, but that translation will ultimately be made superfluous, so you could have spent your time on something else. That's why I was always iffy about doing games like Kuroinu 2, because I was sure that MangaGamer would pick it up and render my effort redundant.

  1. What a stupid question 😂 Who the hell would spend hundreds of hours of work on a translation someone else is already doing? Does he think most people will read both translations? And while we still have 90% of VN in existence that have no translation. This is a very facepalm worthy question 🤦‍♂️

    1. it's about the quality dumbass. I've seen other translators who do shit jobs. just cause you are ok with mediocre doesn't mean everyone else is. Probably explains why your train of thought is subpar as well.

    2. Unless we are talking MTL translation, I promise you, 99% of players can’t tell the difference or simply don’t care about two different manual translations. They will play the first one that becomes available and never look back.

Congratulations being part of that 1% of weirdoes who cares and are fine with translators wasting all their time translating the same games, just to satisfy your nitpicky autism brain.

We normal functioning people would rather have the few fan-translators work on different things, because there are a shitton of works that are long overdue for a translation.

    3. You are acting as if I am forcing Rattanman to translate the games that I want. I merely asked a question to understand their process. Your response speaks volumes about your terrible personality. You choose to attack someone just for asking a question. Maybe go outside and get a fucking life.

    5. Ask stupid questions, get stupid responses. Its abundantly obvious why he is not working on translations that other people are working on. You just needed look past the tip of your own nose for a second to realize.

You are the one who need to go outside some more if you are really that clueless.

    6. Oh didn't know you were the expert on all things regarding translations. At least Rattanman took the time to answer that there are difference between VNs and manga/anime. You on the other hand seem to act as my question was gonna prevent you from getting more hentai translations. Relax bro it's only a question. it's not gonna hurt your fragile ego. You'll get your hentai. I'm not holding a gun to Rattanman's head demanding anything.
