Weeb asked:

What do you plan to translate once you're done with Tsuma Netori? Do you have like a to-do-list of VNs that you plan translate? If you have one, could you show it to us here?

I have an unfeasibly long requests list, which I sort according to popular demand. I never reveal it in detail, because that would affect what people ask for. Ideally, I'd prefer all requests to be completely blind and original, so that I can gauge genuine interest.

That said, I think I've reached the point where there are only two or three games left in the top ten that people seriously care about. No matter what my numbers say, the reaction to starting Tsuma Netori has been pretty muted, and I don't think anybody's going to be that thrilled when they receive the final product, either. As such, I've had a rethink about how I sort games on the list. The new formula is: Requests × (VNDB score - 6). In other words, a game can go higher with fewer requests if it's better-received. But I'm only applying this formula to the top ten on the list, so a game with a rating of 8.50 can't catapult into the running with a serious minority.

Despite the change, this doesn't particularly alter my plans for the foreseeable future. The next game is still likely to be Taima Seiko Alice. The new top five are (in alphabetical order): Kouyoku Senki ExS-Tia, Mama wa Taimanin, Ore to Saeko-san to Netorare Mail, Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu, and Taima Seikou Alice. I have to warn that I haven't looked into ExS-Tia at all, and can't guarantee that it's even possible to patch it.

  1. I think there's a serious flaw with using VNDB scores or even tagging seriously. The site is woefully lacking the proper tags for a lot of its games due to them being community submitted. There was a whole effort many years back to help properly tag NTR games because a fairly large chunk of games on that website never had the tags despite the games in question being filled to the brim with them. I would consider their score to be not as reliable for similar reasons. A good bit of the games I've seen suggested here (ExS-Tia, Djibril, Inyouchuu, etc.) have NTR in them. The ExS-Tia games didn't have NTR tags on them for years until I and some others agreed to tagged them properly as a part of the tagging efforts mentioned above. There are many people who play these games but will never use the VNDB to rate or tag anything there. Most of the NTR games like ExS-Tia, Djibril, and In'youchuu (obviously off the list because they're getting official translations) are talked about on 4chan /ntr/ threads when they're relevant but don't get much attention on the site.

    1. I don’t think tagging is remotely relevant here. Scores can be iffy as well, of course, but they’re also a general consensus as to the quality of a game—and crucially, the only one we have.
I’m just getting pretty sick of having nothing but mediocre games left at the top of the list. Tsuma Netori is the first time that I’ve picked something at the top (excepting the two that I was holding back from) and been met with no apparent enthusiasm whatsoever. I got so little interaction that I genuinely started to wonder if the contact feature was broken. And I can’t really blame people, either: Apart from a small number of interesting scenes, it’s very standard fare. I’d like to go back to doing games that people give a shit about.
Also, there’s the recursive cycle where I’m known for doing Lilith games, so people most commonly request Lilith games, so I only ever do Lilith games. I wanted to give more of an opportunity to the other, non-Lilith games that are popular enough to get into the top ten, and better-regarded than most of the stuff at the top, but are never otherwise going to be serious contenders. I’m mainly just hoping the change will shake things up a bit, so the path forward isn’t as samey and predictable.

    2. Why do I have a feeling it was like one guy who cheated and made a bunch of votes for Netori Tsuma? I never even heard of it before it was announced you would translate it. Then I remembered watching the hentai that was made from it and got initially excited only to find the VN is something else entirely.

This game is so far off everything else you translated and the scenes are lukewarm to say the least. Its basically all 1on1 sex scenes and there are no monsters/tentacles + its Netori and not Netorare. Its not exactly vanilla but I'd dare to claim its the most vanilla translation you have made to date. I hate to admit it but from seeing the CG, this might be the first of your translations I am not going to even bother playing. I totally get why the buzz has been so silent in here since you picked it up.

This is also why I have requested you many times to open some sort of patreon or other support site so people can't game the system as easily and cheat with votes because I see no other logical explanation to why your page became a ghost town ever since you started on this.

I honestly think you should drop it and jump straight to Alice. Many more people want to see that and not this this crap.

    3. It’s more that we’ve reached the point where there are so few Lilith games left that people care about, and I get so few requests, that the game finally managed to crawl its way to the top over a period of eight years. Chronos was the same exact way, just with about 50% more requests. That’s how depleted the topside of the list is looking these days.

    4. Shouldve just gone with Alice tbh

    5. Like the other anonymous guy said, Netori Tsuma just seems like a weird vote. I know you've said you dislike the idea of showing the vote numbers but it would at least put people in a position where they could decide to vote for what they know at least has a chance. If you really want to avoid translating games most of your followers have no interest in, it's best to be more transparent with the top 3 in running. I'd rather vote for a game I'm more lukewarm on if I know it's second highest in votes than vote for a game I know isn't going to win, while the top voted is one I entirely don't care about.

    6. This is not a vote. I want to make that perfectly clear. I’m trying to gauge interest, and there were people actively requesting Tsuma Netori, both before and after I announced that it was a serious contender. All requests are counted cumulatively, which means that they still matter the next time around. I do this specifically so that games which have a mild, but persistent interest will still have a chance in the long run. Otherwise, about 95% of the list would be completely pointless.
Like it or not, this game had genuine interest, spread out over many years.
“Requesting Tsuma Netori-A really good one imo”
“I'd love to replay it with a proper translation.”
“Tsuma Netori would be a great choice imo”
It’s not a matter of stuffing ballots, and it’s honestly not even that strange, considering that I did Ochiru Hitozuma—which, you will recall, was also a netori game about seducing married schoolteachers, with barely any Lilith-tier hardcore stuff apart from Ryoko getting mailed to Russia.

    7. At least Ochiru had some hardcore gangbangs in it to up the ante a bit. This one dosen't even have that(from what I saw on the CG). Its def the most vanilla game you have picked up.
