What changed in hentai to make it what it is today? Before stuff was like 30 min with all types of stuff like monsters and such. Now its pretty much 15 min with like a sex scene and then its over and its significantly more tame than what is used to be

I don't follow the anime scene closely enough to know that, but I suspect the answer is money. It takes an immense amount of effort to make a hentai anime compared to live action porn. So if market trends change, such that you can make just as much money being lazy, or that the product becomes barely profitable, it's going to lead to cheaper and crappier stuff. Much as I don't like Murakami's adaptations that much, he was absolutely on to something, turning blatant cost-cutting measures into a popular and distinctive animation style.
