With only a month of Global RPGX left and not much to talk about, I thought I'd ask for some opinions. I got it into my head that I could use AI to add nipple bulges to some RPGX characters, to match the original sprites, which I want to use instead of their censored versions. I find the weird, featureless breasts distracting, since I know there's supposed to be something there. I tested the idea on Hebiko, and this is the best result I managed to get.
On a scale from Murasaki to Ayame, I would say the distinctness of the shape is pretty far up there. I was going for something along the lines of Zero Sakura's outfit, where areolae can be seen. That detail is still upheld in the Zero Asagi/Sakura scene, where supposedly all that Sakura has changed is her mask and colour scheme. What I am inferring from the context of that scene, and certain other scene CGs, is that for some characters, the nipple bulges have been there all the time, but we (the audience) haven't been able to see them in the worksafe content.
I was thinking of making things like these an optional extra, but it's proving not to be worth the effort, and I'm not sure if I'm happy with the result. I'm concerned that they look unnatural, or too prominent, compared to basically everyone except for Zero Sakura and Ayame. Asagi's, by contrast, are usually subtle bulges. These are verging on just being purple nipples, and I'm about ready to call the experiment a failure.
This is honestly the least important thing I could be doing for RPGX, but thinking up stupid bonus features is how I get my kicks these days.
I don't know the general consensus of AI, but i personally dislike it. Even so, the featureless breasts is unappealing. If any effort is to be considered, the subtleness like in TA3 is better imo. It might be more difficult to blend due to the "evolution" of Kagami's art TA0 onward but also AI just can't do it. If the the art is more cohesive and harder to detect I would say go for it, if not it's probably not worth. Either way good luck and thanks for you work.
ReplyDeleteThe only other outputs I managed to get were either blatantly erect nipples, or so subtle as to be unnoticeable. I think it would probably take a more specialized model to get the results I’m looking for, and I frankly can’t be bothered.
DeleteKeeping the sprites original is better than an extreme difference or the amount of effort to have something unnoticeable. Bland boobs is just unfortunate collateral damage in Lilith's new business model.

ReplyDeleteWhile I definitely prefer the prominent nipples-through-suit design of Kagami's works, don't put yourself through the wringer trying to get AI to do this convincingly. I can only imagine how many attempts it would take per image to get something that looks acceptable. Your generous time is probably better spent elsewhere.

ReplyDeleteThe original sprites are the censored or featureless ones. There are many characters that are designed to have nipple bulges, in the sense that they either originate from TABA or are shown to have casual bulges in their scenes. But since RPGX’s content is shared with the worksafe RPG, it’s easier for them to just do one relatively safe version and use it between the two.
DeleteThe only major exception is Shikanosuke, since the max-relationship image for his first unit contains nipples that I can just copy and paste onto his sprite in a different blending mode. Hebiko’s shows her in a bra, and most others have erect nipples, different outfits, different poses, etc., and are therefore unusable for this purpose. So that means that I can restore the main characters’ sprites from their respective games, and I can add Shikanosuke’s nipples perfectly, but they’re going to look strange next to a hundred different characters with perfectly spherical orbs.
Meh, it's not a big deal. Certainly not worth the time and effort you have to put in to make it uniform across the board. I think most of us are fine with just having the sprites as they were originally displayed in the game. Sure, when you can easily fix it, by any means do it. But don't do it if it makes you feel obliged to do it with every sprite.

It would be great if you could alter the images with little effort, but if it takes a lot of time and work, and the result is not what you wished for, then it's best to just leave the sprites as they are.
