Do you think eroge will be more normalized in the future?
I kind of hope not. A lot of the things that used to be niche or alternative have become more mainstream now, and the result is always those things being ruined. Just look at VNs in general, which in the West used to appeal solely to weebs and their sensibilities, but then got adopted by talentless hipsters.
I agree but for another reason, the more "popular" it gets the more is regularized, censorshit is already bad enough as it is but it can always get worse
ReplyDeleteI agree. That’s another reason. I don’t mean to say that it’s hipsters every time. Niche things work because the people who are into them have a shared range of sensibilities. When they go mainstream, they either change themselves to attract a broader audience, take on an undesirable new audience that starts causing problems, or attract exactly the kind of unwanted attention that you’re describing. Things might get dumbed down, censored, banned, or just plain not made for the people who like them anymore. You could definitely see all the content controversies that have surrounded eroge over the years as an example, from RapeLay to the recent credit card issues. (Lilith still haven’t put most of their pages back up, by the way.)
