Which one will happen first: Japanese government easing out on immigration to strengthen their workforce, or them deciding "fuck it, let's go the way of the dodo" instead?

The immigration stance will be easy to change, if and when differently-minded people get put in charge. I'd prefer they try to fix their economy without Westernizing, because after a certain point, they won't be Japan anymore. I say conscript the hikkikomori. Having a depressed, antisocial NEET being forced to perform a job they hate doesn't sound like it would be much different from your average government service worker.
