How do you deal with insomnia?

I just slip it some money under the table.

New update on the Rentry page.

If the Blue Jays fell to the Mariners, would you mind translating Nyotai o Musaboru Settai Ryokan? I need good hentai to distract myself.

Possibly, although that would be unlikely, because I don't think they're seafaring birds.

What are the hardest games to translate in terms of coding?

For example, I really want Shoujo Senki Soul Eater https://vndb.org/v2866 translated. Looking at the CG gallery, it has the most intense scenes in any VN. The animation was just a tease of what's in the full game.

But the game and installer are a pain to even run and nobody has ever attempted a translation to my knowledge.

It comes down to whether somebody has made tools to work with a game's engine, whether those tools still happen to work on the particular game in question, and how complicated the scripting process is. Most Lilith games run in KiriKiri2, which has been around since the early 2000s, and is notoriously easy to work with. It's the same engine used for games like Fate/Stay Night, so enthusiasts had ample time and motivation to perfect cracking it. Other engines are more obscure or proprietary, so they don't get the cracking support. An engine like UTAGE requires a Unity text injection workaround; Crowd/Anim's engine is proprietary, and seemingly only got tools made because some people really, really wanted to translate the Homestay games. If things get really complicated, you might have to replace the script via hex editing, and at that point, I would just give up, frankly.

You know it's weird Taimanin have not given lessons to their male taimanins not to fall in love considering the whole setting of Taimanin

That would lead to Gosha's ninja bloodlines dying out, the Taimanin falling apart, and all the survivors having to get real jobs. Prepare for the adventures of Accountant Asagi, where the only people fucking her up the ass are the federal government.

Anonymous asked:

What do you think Lilith will do for the 20th anniversary of the Taimanin series? Will she announce a new VN that will be a continuation of the main story or a new side story? Or something completely different?

Given their track record, I'd say the smart money is on nothing. The one thing they have done is port a version of the TA1 story into RPGX, which sure makes for a bizarre tonal whiplash. As for anything new, at most, you might get an announcement for this "Taimanin Squad" gacha that's supposedly in the works.

Any game you've played lately that you've been enjoying?

I don't really have enough time for games. I also don't have an interest in the vast majority of what's been made in recent years.

I'm robbing you Rattan gimme your money

Aw, dang it, wouldn't you know? I must have left it in my other pants! In that other universe where I actually have money.

Have you ever tried this "gooning" thing the kids are going on about?

I may in fact have masturbated once or twice in my life. What I did not do, on the other hand, was give it a moronic name and decide it was a lifestyle.

Do you have any interest in the upcoming Simpsons movie?

There's a-fucking-nother one? What for? That show can barely manage 2 million viewers now, and nobody ever talks about it, except to reference episodes that happened thirty years ago. My stance on watching any new movies remains the same as watching the actual show: I don't know what's been happening for the last two decades and counting, and I don't care to find out.

Do you ever consider the sexiness of the translation? For example, I notice some other translations talk about "he crumpled her breasts" which I assume is the closest translation of the japanese original. But I think squeeze works far better than crumple. Crumple just sounds like he's squeezing a paper ball.

I've been leaning into naturalistic language more and more over time (in contrast with the very beginning, when I was paranoid about ever using any phrasing I couldn't find a J-E source for, in case I screwed up). The reason you would get something like "crumple" is that a word might have a limited number of English equivalents that you can find or think up, and either the most natural phrasing isn't the primary meaning, or it's somehow misleading, or it lacks nuance. For example, squeeze might be perfectly acceptable in certain cases, but in others, you'll want crumple's nuance of the breast flesh being deformed by that action. In that case, it gives you a phrasing problem to consider, because words like deform might be too "ugly".

Sometimes there's genuinely no good way to phrase something in English. One of the worst is when they keep referring to membranes. At this point, I mostly just translate that as "lining" (i.e. the lining of one's mouth, vagina, etc.), but that's not always what's being talked about. Another is use of the word "undulate" when referring to the involuntary, wave-like swallowing/milking motion of an orifice, which, even after ten years, I have not been able to think of a good replacement for.
