What are the hardest games to translate in terms of coding?
For example, I really want Shoujo Senki Soul Eater https://vndb.org/v2866 translated. Looking at the CG gallery, it has the most intense scenes in any VN. The animation was just a tease of what's in the full game.
But the game and installer are a pain to even run and nobody has ever attempted a translation to my knowledge.
It comes down to whether somebody has made tools to work with a game's engine, whether those tools still happen to work on the particular game in question, and how complicated the scripting process is. Most Lilith games run in KiriKiri2, which has been around since the early 2000s, and is notoriously easy to work with. It's the same engine used for games like Fate/Stay Night, so enthusiasts had ample time and motivation to perfect cracking it. Other engines are more obscure or proprietary, so they don't get the cracking support. An engine like UTAGE requires a Unity text injection workaround; Crowd/Anim's engine is proprietary, and seemingly only got tools made because some people really, really wanted to translate the Homestay games. If things get really complicated, you might have to replace the script via hex editing, and at that point, I would just give up, frankly.
