New update on the Rentry page.

I'm really sorry for the delay on this one. I wasn't planning on being too candid, but this release has been so late that I think I owe everybody an explanation. In brief, I haven't gotten anything done whatsoever for almost all of the last month, because I've had to spend the majority of every day visiting my father in the hospital. He's been diagnosed with cancer, and this has kept him bouncing around throughout the healthcare system—including a stay in the ICU, and a subacute ward where he was surrounded by inattentive nurses and mentally ill patients, like the one who had to be physically restrained because she kept eating her own diaper. So adding that on top of the previous problems about my business slowly falling apart, I will probably have to start going the "desperate begging" route very soon.

Following up on the previous posts, these are the most immediately viable options I've either been given or thought up myself:

  • Get a Boosty/Buy Me a Coffee account and hope they don't bother to moderate it
  • Get a Patreon/SubscribeStar account and attach it to a completely separate blog and identity, then bullshit some generic, low-effort, mass-appeal product
  • Do videos on something like YouTube or Twitch in spite of having no discernible talent
  • Get an account on Substack or something like that and bullshit some written content
  • Get what looks to be a potentially very high-paying (but equally unstable) work-for-hire job with a shady AI tuning company that I don't trust in the slightest
  • Try to enter the doujin translation world and dramatically overcharge people for commissions
  • Accept commissions for RPGX scenes, and then feel guilty about it

I'm still accepting suggestions, if anyone's got any better ideas. At the moment, I have very little time to do anything, so the less effort I need to put into it, the better. Technically, the least effort would just be getting the Boosty account and putting it on this blog, so I may do that. But they apparently don't want pornography at all, which means that if they were to start moderating more strictly, I could have the rug pulled out from under me. They apparently just updated their TOS, and it's the first time I've ever seen one of these sites ban "hypertrophied genital anatomy". That's pure jealousy, right there.

Provisionally, I'm thinking of maybe going the separate identity/Patreon route and churning out mass-appeal crap. I saw one particular VN which has simplistic writing, an uninspired concept, and the most generic-looking AI art imaginable—and it's raking in $8000 USD a month. If I could get something like that going, I could more than compensate for my life going down the toilet, and probably still have time to get VN/gacha content done over here.

Anonymous asked:

Have you suggested making a page on "Buy Me a Coffee"? Users can just donate to you, doesn't need to be a subscription.

That could be an option. I would prefer the support to be consistent, though, which would suggest a subscription scheme.

On a different note if you did continue your work what do you think the runner-up for next translation would be? I've seen the hentai and game CG's for Himekishi Lilia and they don't really interest me personally, especially every character having pubes too.

I'm not in a position to think that far ahead. I have only two more days' worth of work to go on the next gacha patch, but I've had those two days of work for over a week now. I'm under emergency circumstances at the moment, and I have no idea when I might be able to get my regular schedule back.

Anonymous asked:

Cant you start a youtube channel and patreon sharing your knowledge on rattan furniture construction?

Unfortunately, I don't have any presentation skills or talent. Not that that's stopped anyone else on YouTube.

Anonymous asked:

Are there any plans to do Himekishi Lilia? I think its a pretty popular game and enjoyed the hentai so I was quite surprised when I found out that the game has no fan English patch at all.

I was thinking that would be the next VN project, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back to doing VNs at this rate. Things are going extremely poorly for me right now, and it's hard enough to even put out my regular gacha patch.

An Urgent Appeal on Behalf of the "I Want All Your Money" Fund

There's a "woe is me" sob story version of events that I won't get into here, but I'll let you in on one aspect of how things are going for me. It's not directly health-related for once, although if you're good little boys and girls, I might regale you with tales of my colonoscopy. It's been a funnnnn year.

Partially thanks to some serious problems that have cropped up of late, I'm getting to the point where my business is falling apart. At the moment, it's looking like I might have to essentially be the company pretty soon. If and when that happens, I can't do all the work myself, and the profit margins are no longer high enough to even pay someone minimum wage to help me. Hell, I'm not making minimum wage right now. I had to agree to pay the majority of President Bigly's tariffs just to keep my most important customers. The second that the de minimis exemption was retracted, virtually everybody cancelled their orders until I offered that. It's a similar story with prices.

In essence, I'm heading slowly, but steadily in the direction of "financially fucked", and thanks to credit card companies suddenly being the morality police, all my backup plans are no longer viable. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to supplement my income before that income becomes literally $0? I've considered armed robbery, but my face looks fat in tights.

You have to listen to any soundtrack from any Lilith game for a day. Which one do you choose? (For the record, you can't listen to the same song back-to-back.)

Thanks to RPGX, they all blend together. As far as I can recall, Kurenai's had the most effort put into its soundtrack. I can't think of any other Lilith game I've played that has a motif. And the thing I find kind of bizarre about it is that Mission Briefing is now inextricably linked with RPGX, to the point where it's strange to think of it as anything other than menu music. It certainly sounds more like menu music than scene music.

Now, Where Were We?

New update on the Rentry page.

Also, if anyone has any ideas of where I can move to to avoid the imminent Digital ID hellscape, feel free to mention them. I doubt I'll be on Blogger much longer if they want me to link my actual identity to this.

How's life down in the gooncave?

No time to talk, citizen. I've just had a call on the GoonPhone. It seems our old friend the Fiddler is on the loose. To the suspicious unmarked van!

Anonymous asked:

Are you interested in any of Waffle's games so far and have you played any?

I never paid much attention to their catalogue, so I don't have much of a handle on them as a brand.

Anonymous asked:

Which Lilith game/series so far has the most unused story potential in your opinion?

Of the ones I've gotten to play, Taima Seiko Alice. They came up with way too much background lore to thoughtlessly discard, to the point where it compelled me to figure out how to add that lorebook section to the game, just to highlight it. I think they were anticipating that game potentially being the basis for a new series, but of course that was also the year that Lilith descended into gacha hell.

Anonymous asked:

Which Lilith game did the "'lol nothing happened' ending" the best in your opinion?

I would say that only the Yukikaze games qualify. To my knowledge, in all the rest of the games, even if the corruption of the characters is halted or reversed, they still happen. But Yukikaze is NTR, and they were obviously anticipating that there might be a sequel someday, so they had to have an ending which took place before either character lost their virginity. They can't lose it to some other guy in the sequel if they're already deflowered.

That said, they still could have worked around it. The idea that the bulk of the story never canonically happens is as dissatisfying as an "it was all a dream" ending. Here's one idea I've thought of: Yukikaze and Rinko get recovered during an extraction mission (which could easily be the token opening fight scene where they get to showcase their powers, only with them on the bad guys' side until they're defeated), and Kiryuu undoes all the modifications to their brains and bodies. They then have their memories erased or hypnotically suppressed, and he restores their hymens to ensure that they don't realize anything is different. All the training still exists buried somewhere in their subconscious minds, but Kiryuu's work ensures that it won't resurface as long as nothing triggers any memories of it. But Tatsurou knows, even if Yukikaze and Rinko don't, which makes things very tense and uncomfortable for him. And of course, once the corruption starts, all those months of training begin to come back to them.

Not saying that's perfect, but there are any number of ways you could keep the progress and still have them NTRed from scratch; they just don't match the bog-standard formula for the genre.

How ear now?

Ear not heal. Still pound little, not bad. Maybe calm down soon. But ear ring, all time. Very bad. See if get better. Then maybe Grug not kill self after all.

Are the animations in Kangoku Senkan looping awkwardly or is it just my copy/computer? The Lieri on comms with her husband scene has a noticable cut/stutter that is just really distracting as an example.

I've always found that there's a tiny pause whenever a video loops on that engine. I also assumed it was my computer.

Anonymous asked:

Apparently Shiranui is drawn by Kagami now, they've just announced the new update for RPGX on Twitter. How do you feel abut this?

She looks significantly better than she used to. I especially like the fact that her breasts are well-proportioned, instead of the ridiculous monstrosities that they had been developing into. I thought her original design was absurd, but in recent years, she's basically become a pair of breasts with a human attached.

Man, this takes me back. I don't know how many years it has been since I've played a Lilith game and checked on your blog. I've always wanted to thank you for your amazing translations, as I've dedicated quite a few of my... late night times to the Taimanin games. So here it is : a formal thank you, for your work.

Pity we haven't got anything in years, the Taimanin Cinematic Universe still has massive potential, but after phase 3 it went down the drain. I don't even know if Lilith is producing anything now.

Do you, like I and a lot of us lost souls do, lament the sad downfall of this company or do you not care at all ?

I haven't been very satisfied since they began doing gacha in the first place. Ever since they started making TABA, their VNs have suffered, first becoming shorter (like Alice and Chronos), then getting delayed, or downgraded from Anime Lilith to Black Lilith, then disappearing entirely. The later Taimanin games are a bit of a joke, story- and character-wise, even if there are still some good scenes.

The thing is, though, Lilith has always had flaws and corner-cutting. There usually isn't a very complicated or sophisticated choice structure; plot differences between routes don't necessarily make any sense; they stretch out already-low-resolution backgrounds for the sex scenes; etc. And there's always real story potential in every setting they establish, yet they rarely ever exploit that properly. Although some of their early titles were experimental, they do have only two formats of game, which they kept recycling over and over again. Taimanin is the best and worst thing that ever happened to them. By the time they did Yukikaze 1, they were already conscious of the need to plan for possible sequels (hence the "lol nothing happened" ending), which is the sort of thing that always signals a slow shift from a creative mindset to a corporate one. But at the same time, for all these flaws, Lilith used to be a company with ambition, and now their only ambition is to figure out what else can make them money.

Is the guy that was translating "Seigi no Henshin" still alive or he disappered?

I don't have any idea.

I've been asked to link to a Waffle-related Discord group. Apparently, the person who runs it has been remaking a viewer for Edens Ritter Grenze. They messaged me about it after noticing a question from earlier this year, in which somebody claimed to be part of a server for translating the game. If any of you know anything about it, you're encouraged to get in touch with them.

Health-wise, I still don't have any real updates to provide. I have finally been able to see an ENT, and he wasn't all that helpful. However, I was given a congestion medication that might reduce the reactivity of my ear within another month or so. Once it stops inflaming every time I type, I think I may be able to start getting back to work, but probably only in a limited capacity. I also have to deal with the tinnitus, which gets worse as the day goes on, especially with my chronic sleep deprivation. That means it's likely to shorten my working periods dramatically. As such, I'm not committing to anything until I see substantial progress.

Anonymous asked:

I am a noob who doesn't know anything about translating VN so I am genuinely asking even if this seems dumb.

I thought translators would just extract the text, translate it based on it, put it back into the game and call it a day. What is (roughly) your workflow? You said you can't listen to high pitch noises anymore, so I assume you listen to the vn while translating. Is it only for testing if what you wrote shows up at the right time or do you use voices for translating too since the tone might help understanding what they say better? Or do you just play it first so you know what happens?

You have to do multiple passes. This is my version:

Translation: I go through the script blind, and as I translate the lines, I leave notes for myself to follow up on. I don't have to care too much about phrasing at this stage, as it's only a rough draft.

Editing: I go through the translated script, looking for mistakes, adjusting phrasing, doing research for things I'm not familiar with, and dealing with issues such as untranslatable jokes, things which need a TL note, etc. During this, I refer to the audio files in a lot of cases, such as when there are slurred lines that are hard to decipher through text. I do an entire separate mini-passthrough for lines with transliterated "f" sounds, because there's no way of telling on paper whether they're supposed to be pronounced as "f" or "h", and this can affect character reactions. (e.g., Did that character exclaim "Fuah" in surprise, or did they sigh "Haah"? If it says "Fuaih", is that a squeal, or a slurred version of "Hai"?)

Proofreading: This is the last chance to catch problems, as well as the QA test where I make sure that lines aren't getting skipped, and the game doesn't crash. I play through the game/scene twice, trying to catch typos, errors, or phrasing which might be misleading to the reader. When lines do deviate from what's strictly in the script, this is usually the phase where I introduce those changes, to in some way facilitate readability.

My issues at the moment are that (a) my ear is reacting badly even from me typing small amounts of text, and (b) because I'm supposed to avoid noise at the moment, listening to all the high-pitched wailing is a really bad idea. At one point, I tried continuing the Asuka scene, and had to stop after three lines because it was triggering spasms.

Anonymous asked:

I may be wrong but didn't you prepare a patch in the past for koutetsu majo annerose to import animated scene from another game? Would it be alright to ask a link?

Yes.

Anonymous asked:

Are you feeling any better? Is your ear actively hurting? I hope a specialist can help you out soon.

Ears don't really heal, which means the best I can hope for is to wait (weeks and weeks) for it to stop being reactive and inflamed. It only hurts sometimes, when it's been exposed to too much noise, but there's no consistent pattern to what constitutes "too much", or what kind (pitch, volume, etc.). Fortunately, now that I've been able to get a high-frequency hearing test, I've determined that the only significant hearing damage is in an upper range, which I would have eventually lost with aging anyway. At one point, everything in that ear sounded like it was coming out of a broken drive-thru speaker, so things could have been a lot worse. But I've still got the percussion sensitivity, middle-ear muscle seizures and probably permanent tinnitus. So life is really fun right now.
