Could you show us the list of VN translation requests you have, and the ones you plan on translating after Chronos?

Also, if it's not on the list already, i'd like to request Onna Kentoushi Minerva ~Monster Colosseum~ pretty please

I'm not going to show the list, because that affects what people ask for. (Also, it's over 300 games long at this point.) The situation is exactly the same as it was in this post, which I'll link to rather than have to retype the whole Djibril explanation. Right now, I'm leaning more heavily towards taking on Taima Seiko Alice than I was at the time, unless one of the phantom translation projects actually materializes.

  1. Last i heard from the guy who picked Alice up on 4chan he had already translated all the H-scenes and even uploaded patch for it. Now he is presumably working on the story. Even though it was months ago since last we heard from them, I still feel there are Lillith games that are safer to get started on, like Colosseum or Monsters Survive(translator officially dropped it). It would kinda suck if you started on Alice when somebody already translated over half of it and could come out at any moment now.

    1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t that one also going to be just an edited machine translation? I have a hard time thinking that somebody would take months to get through the last 15% of a game, when a computer is doing all the hard parts for them.
I don’t think people should work off of those anyway, because they absolutely will mislead you. Either (a) they won’t produce a real translation, but you won’t notice because you’re only sprucing up the output; or (b) you’re relying on it for phrasing, and cross-referencing it with the original text, in which case you might as well have done it from scratch in the first place.
At any rate, I’m giving the translator (or any other translator, for that matter) until one month after Chronos’s release before I consider doing it myself. I get what you're saying, but this game would have been done literally three or four years ago if not for various translators claiming the project and then going silent. It’s turning into another KS2 situation, where clearly people want it, and translators keep picking it up, but it just never, ever gets finished.

    2. I got no idea what the quality of the translation is like since I wanted to wait for full release. I also see where you are coming from, But I would like to remind you that MTL has come a long way recently, especially with the Sugoi Translator machine learning that is specifically built to translate visual novel and manga and its stil developing and getting better.

I still won't play pure MTL games but a human edited modern MTL game is almost indistinguishable from a 100% human translated game in my experience. Only small, usually unimportant, details gets lost in translation.

      Here is my take:
Should the guy release Alice in the midst of you manually translating it, I personally would play that version(assuming its modern MTL and well-edited) instead of waiting possibly 6 months - 1 year for your translation to finish and I think a lot of other people would too.

In my opinion, you are much better off picking another work that for certain isn't being worked on right now. Maybe after that, if Alice still isn't out, then it would be safe to start on it since it would be 2+ years since last update and the project is surely abandoned for good. That's just my opinion of course, you should do whatever you want.

    3. I mean, fair point. I’m personally never going to trust machine translation until it can understand context, slang and slurred speech. I know people kiss DeepL’s ass all the time, but that’s only because it outputs convincing text. I’ve done tests comparing its output to mine, and while it’s a lot better than what we used to have, it outright lies to you half the time, inventing new words and actions and sentence structure.
The problem I face is that this is the last game on my list that both is heavily requested and looks pretty decent. I’ve spent the last 3+ years operating on the logic of “Somebody is supposed to be working on it, and even though nobody has seen them for a year, that doesn’t mean it’s not coming.” And every time I start to consider it again, somebody else claims to have picked it up, and then also doesn’t deliver. This can’t go on forever.

    4. >This can’t go on forever.

Agreed. We must have Alice, its just a matter of time and who is gonna deliver. Id just hate to see your hard work be wasted if it came out while you worked on it since you have mentioned in the past that you would like to avoid such scenarios.
