What are your biggest disappointments with Lilith? I'm not just talking about the recent direction they've taken with gachas, but also their VNs. A common complaint from fans has been the lack of villain sex scenes. What are yours?

I get sick of only seeing the initial training, and not the overall degradation of a character. It's always dissatisfying when there's a timeskip before a bad ending, and then the heroines are just docile all of a sudden.

I like the villains who seem to have a lesbian fixation with degrading the heroines, but I don't like that they never, ever do anything with that. Oboro never keeps Asagi around as a personal slave or trophy; she just kills her arbitrarily.

I don't like that they never make effective use of the interesting settings and scenarios they concoct. And of course, in the gacha world, I hate the direction in which RPGX has taken the Taimanin universe, because it makes no goddamn sense. We've gotten to the point where Oboro is a washed-up cat lady who takes care of street children in the slums, and Yomihara has holidays where everybody just agrees to stop killing each other for a while.

Can it be done, sensei? https://vndb.org/v30374

I don't think so. Valkyria games have a proprietary engine, and last I checked, nobody's made any patching tools for it.

Sorry for troubling you once again. I've already tried unpacking the original version of Taimanin Yukikaze 2 on GARbro, but I couldn't find the script file. Am I doing something wrong?

newgame.ks

Here's the first Alice partial patch. It's mainly setup/exposition, plus some early scenes involving humans. The next patch will cover the monster scenes and the Bakgodek ending.

I have to do a kind of mini-release notes section here, to go over a couple of points. First off, I'm experimenting with taking this in slightly more of a localization direction than previous games. It's obviously trying to be hard Western fantasy, and aside from some telltale Japanese customs like bowing, it comes across almost like a game that was translated from English in the first place. This doesn't mean I'm rewriting it, but I'm being less pedantic about conveying Japanese nuance, because this is a game where atmosphere matters. No -sans and -samas, or transliterated terms. Ideally no TL notes, even if there's a minor detail that will get lost. And I'm deliberately writing in a slightly more fantasy-appropriate way—often using "seed" instead of "cum", for instance, whereas I normally wouldn't do that without a clear reason in the script. I haven't gone the "doth thou" route, but I thought I should mention it, because I usually take things the other way, to the point of pedantry.

That said, I'm still transliterating the sound effects. That's partially due to wanting to preserve nuance rather than approximate them, but it's mostly because it's just faster and easier, and it doesn't particularly matter. There are very few situations where the meaning of a string of sound effects is not clearly conveyed through the prose or context. However, to make this matter even less, I've had an idea so obvious that I should have thought of it years ago. I've inserted a variety of audio files into the game to supplement the sound effect lines, including ones from TA0. It's not perfect, in large part because it's surprisingly difficult to find audio clips of a tentacle prizing somebody's cervix open, but it should now convey what kind of sound is being made without need for explanation.

Hi! I was just wondering if there is a way to see the transcript for Taimanin Yukikaze 2?

Anonymous asked:

Hi! Sorry but it's me again. What I forgot to add was: Is there any way to see the transcript for your English translation of Taimanin Yukikaze 2?

You can always download the patch for the original version and unpack it with GARbro.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think we'll ever see another animation from Lilith like Taimanin Yukkikaze 2 or Taimanin Asagi zero?

There's no telling what they'll do on that front. I'm surprised they're still producing anything, given how sporadic the anime releases have been. Maybe they'll embrace AI for cost-cutting purposes, and go back to doing full-length OVAs.

I heard someone say Taima Seikou Alice is pretty violent but it doesn't seem to be from what I can pick up. Would you say it is?

It's only as violent as a Taimanin game.

Im reading Shion ~Zankoku na Mahou no Tenshi~ now and I notice there are a lot of exclamations in the text (fufu, fuuu-, hoho etc). But I dont remember those being part of your translations. Did the writer change or do you translate them differently? (PS Shion is a cutey patooty)

There are plenty of those in the ones I've done, but the frequency of them depends on individual characterization.

Anonymous asked:

Can you add Shikku X Kanojo to the list? Surely this is one that won't be taken by any publishers

Okay. I don't know why it wouldn't, but sure.

Anonymous asked:

Could you translate this vn? https://vndb.org/v2555

Maybe.

It looks like they have a bunch of jp editions. What version would get the translate process?

The most recent one, if possible.

Anonymous asked:

Were any of the VNs you've translated (or are translating) much different than you thought they'd be?

Chronos and Alice are both a lot shorter than I thought they'd be. Clearly Lilith was experimenting at the time, because they both are less than two thirds the length of TA0, and make themselves seem even shorter by splitting the story into two branching paths.

Anonymous asked:

Any idea what modern regulations Sasayama was referring to?

No. He said "the usual regulations", so I don't know what specifically might have changed recently.

Do you believe credit card companies/Western influence will eventually either ban porn or severely limit it? With DLSite forced to change the tags and the credit card companies still leaving anyway it seems there taking a more aggressive approach recently.

They're never going to ban porn, but they're going to make it increasingly difficult to create the Wrong Kind of Porn on a professional level. I think the only solution is for cryptocurrency to become more stable and mainstream, so that the credit card companies can be cut out of the equation altogether.

Shiravune is about to release Taimainin Yukkikaze soon. Do you think they might pick up Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu in the near future?

I doubt it. They're following the same release pattern that Infini-Brain themselves tried a few years ago. I would bet that they're going to focus on Taimanin specifically until all of those games are localized. That said, absolutely nothing is safe anymore, and it wouldn't surprise me if they branch out to games like that eventually.

One small caveat is the weird way that Lilith have been acting recently. First Sasayama tweeted that there was now a possibility of Rinkan Club falling afoul of modern regulations (or possibly credit card company bullshit) and no longer being sold. Then, virtually all of Lilith's games disappeared from their website. There was one Lilith Soft title (the most recent one), no Anime Lilith, one Lilith Mist, and two Black Lilith (TY1 and 2). They've since added every Taimanin game apart from Mama, and don't even have any Kangoku Senkan games up at the time of me posting this. They're not just unlinked: if you go to the URL, you'll find that these pages are completely gone. I think something has them concerned at the moment. And considering that Shiravune is a Japan-based company, they would have to follow Japanese law, even if they're selling primarily to foreigners. Ergo, if it turns out that there is a problem with certain games, then they may choose not to go anywhere near them, just to be safe, even if they are not actively banned.

When translating Tsuma Netori, did you predict exactly what the plot twist (at least I think it's that) of Makoto learning exactly what "the truth" is? (For the record, DLsite English refers to it as that and I'm trying not to spoil what it is for anyone who hasn't played it.)

I was aware that something along those lines had to happen. It's easy to deduce from the CGs.

O COME CU CARALHO. asked:

HELLO how are you?

I wanted to ask a question, have you played any persona, in this specific case, have you played persona 5?

No. I'm vaguely aware of what happens in most of Persona 4, but that's only because someone showed me once. I haven't played any of them myself.

Anonymous asked:

Most annoying VN to translate so far?

Ochiru Hitozuma. It was as boring to do as Tsuma Netori, but I had to figure out the engine problems from scratch. I had to do the word wrapping manually, and then I screwed it up by one character width, so I had to do it all over again. There were lots of leftover KiriKiri2 files, which made it annoying to try and find all the right interface strings to modify. Also, there were many scenes where I had to keep checking back and forth between different versions of the same prose to ensure that they conveyed that difference without losing their consistency. It was driving me nuts by the end.

Anonymous asked:

Do you prefer the old lilith art style or the new lilith art style? Especially with the guest artists for rpgx

I like that they have a unified colouring style, at least. When you go back to early TABA, it's all over the place, and makes a lot of the cards look ugly. There was nothing wrong with what they were doing for most of their games before, but it does feel slicker and glossier now.

Anonymous asked:

What current project are you translating?

Taima Seiko Alice.

Anonymous asked:

Which Lilith game do you feel has the weakest voice acting?

No idea. I don't remember the details of most of them, let alone what the voice acting was like. I hated Saya's voice, but that's less because of acting than because I'm annoyed by that character archetype.

On a technicality, the answer is probably either TABA or RPGX. With all those different characters and voice actresses, surely one of them must be the worst.

Anonymous asked:

Could you do Ma ga Ochiru Yoru Demonic Princess?

It's unlikely right now,  but I can add another notch to that on the requests list.

And whats the oldest game by release date you’ve translated?

That would technically be the Taimanin Asagi story in IZM 02.

Anonymous asked:

Do you prefer to play vns on your laptop or on the dining room tv?

I beam them outside on a projector to frighten the neighbours.

Anonymous asked:

Have you played Rapelay? (I’m asking because I think I recall you mentioning it back on Tumblr.)

No. Of all the Illusion games, I mainly just played Artificial Girl 3. I tried one or two others, and discovered them to be absolute crap, particularly Hako.

Anonymous asked:

can you put +1 on Saint Dorei Gakuen 2 https://vndb.org/v28875 please? thanks

I can, but that one has a very high chance of being picked up by Shiravune.
