I have no idea how to judge that. I think it depends on what I'm reading. For example, if I'm reading an article about how that thing that happened was caused by those people you hate, it can take me half an hour to complete, while I keep pausing to shake my fist in anger. But on the other hand, I can read and agree to a whole EULA in seconds.

That's a philosophical question. I would say that a team is preferable overall, but I personally don't want the problems that might result from working with someone else. If one person has overall control of a project, then there's no clashing translation styles/philosophies; there's no need to waste time debating between yourselves how something should be handled or standardized; and, with intimate knowledge of all aspects of a script, it's easier to pick up on something that's inconsistently or mistakenly translated between one scene and another.

I couldn't give you anything close to a precise answer. It ultimately depends on how much you scrutinize the script. In the early days, I was just trying to get things out as quickly as possible, whereas now I have a greater appreciation for how easily that can lead to mistakes. An example of this is when I accidentally had Kuroi call Rinko "Rinko-nee", and this passed through the translation phase, the editing phase, and one round of proofreading before I caught it. Just looking at proofreading alone, I now spend about as much time on a third of a standard-size game as I did on the whole of TA3 (which is double the length).

The top five haven't changed in ages. In alphabetical order: Makai Tenshi Djibril, Mama wa Taimanin, Ore to Saeko-san to Netorare Mail, Tentacle and Witches, Tsuma Netori.

Keep in mind that, as before, I'm still iffy on Djibril. Frontwing could absolutely do it themselves, or find out about me doing it and shut the project down. I've looked into the possibility of patching it, but I don't yet know if it's possible, as the repacking tools I tried didn't work.

At the moment, the course of action I'm considering is doing either Tsuma Netori or Ore to Saeko-san (which are constantly neck-and-neck). I'm also starting to consider Taima Seiko Alice, but in deference to the suggestion of one commenter, I may leave that until after the former is done. I don't personally think that any of the people who have taken it on are going to deliver at this stage, but there's no point in having audience feedback if I just ignore it.

I don't think the odds would be that awful for a game from 2007. Age is mainly an issue because the further back you go, the more obscure and unworkable the engines might become. I would say 2007 is the cutoff point, but of course there's no way of knowing without investigating it specifically. I've tried to unpack games that were slightly newer than that, and still been thwarted by unusable scripts.

Yes, because obviously every VN character is a bigger draw than the gacha characters. But she was still very popular regardless: For the opening months of TABA, she was the de facto representative for the game, as well as their Comiket goods, and she wouldn't have then gotten an entire story arc revolving around her if she weren't a success. It's only in RPGX that they've reduced her to a background role.

It seems like most of the big developers have turned to gacha by now. Some didn't succeed, largely because they didn't have a unique selling point to distinguish themselves. I know Alicesoft has one, there's an Eden's Ritter gacha, an Inyouchuu gacha... Just about all of the most well-known companies have tried at one point or another. Of course, I don't know if any of them shifted to focus on their gacha games exclusively, like Lilith have.

That hinges on whether the computer can be taught to understand context, slang and nuance, rather than simple pattern recognition. At this point, I wouldn't rule it out, but we are still a long ways away from that. Even if we reach that point, you also have to consider the fact that VN machine translation programs always send lines to the computer one at a time, in isolation. Even if an AI learns to understand context, the whole process of sending the text would have to be rethought, or that context simply wouldn't be there for it to work with.

There's always speculation about that, but there's no basis for it so far. One thing that keeps misleading people is that ZIZ/TEATRO will sometimes tweet out early-stage art for a Taimanin "anime", but this will only actually refer to a small promo video for one of the gacha games, or something.

Nearly all of the most-requested games on my list are still Lilith titles, although other games are starting to work their way in there. However, these days, it seems that every other company's games are getting licensed, and every game that I consider taking on gets picked up. It doesn't feel safe to pick any non-Lilith games unless they're fairly obscure, but those ones are not going to be highly-requested, and there's no guarantee that their engines can be worked with. Although older games are less likely to get picked up, I've looked into doing a couple of them, and been completely unable to extract the data properly, even with modern tools.

Lilith games seem like the only relatively safe choices at the moment, unless their licensed localizers get their act together.

There are tons of translated H-scenes and story in the game that resembles a lot of the taimanin-verse. We need help making a viewer so that we may archive the scenes and, if possible, the story/events. Its a very sad day. Please help us save our hentai!

I can't offer any technical expertise, but the most important thing you need to do is to work out how to rip the scripts and files. Try looking at the how-to instructions that come with both of the aforementioned viewers. They might give you an idea of what sort of things to try.

After that, you'll need to get as many people as you can to roll the gacha, and collect the most data possible. The actual viewer should be an afterthought, because if worst comes to worst, you can always just alter the scripts to be readable by one of the Taimanin viewers. It's easy, but tedious.

If you can't figure out the ripping procedure in time, then I would advise making video recordings of the scenes with the background music off, so that (theoretically) sound clips can be extracted, and the text retyped.

Also, keep in mind that if it's only the English version that's shutting down, that's not quite so bad: As long as you can find a way to rip scenes, anything in Japanese could simply be translated again. You have a time limit for the official localization, but all is not lost, as long as you can rip them from the JP version as well.

Anyway, that's about all the advice I can give. Anyone who would like to contribute their expertise can use the comment section here, in the hopes of coordinating some sort of preservation effort.
