So why do you think Lilith games get rewritten so much? First Ochiru, then Zero and now Chronos. It feels like this type of stuff is common in Lilith titles.

It's common in writing, full stop. Reasons can range anywhere from external factors (i.e., the ethics officials), to running out of time to implement something, to the story not working, to simply changing your mind. In the case of Chronos, they might have wanted to do something that was more brutal and violent, but struggled to make the plot and porn both work together in that scenario.

Anonymous asked:

Are you acepting requests for Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu, since there isn't any notice about the guy that was translating?

Anonymous asked:

Can i vote for Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu since the translator  disappeared?

I'm always accepting requests for it, but for now, I'm holding off on doing that project on the off chance that it materializes. The same goes for Taima Seiko Alice, which I have been holding back on doing for years due to competing projects, which either don't materialize, or turn out to be edited machine translations. Assuming the situation stays the same, Alice would have priority over Seigi no Henshin, because it's been at the very top of the list for years now.

Anonymous asked:

Would it be possible to do translate something like Kuroinu Kai since a fair amount of the game was translated already, but with some scenes cut and weirdly cut into 3 chapters.

There's a very specific thing that needs to happen before I could seriously consider that. The problem is that I don't think MangaGamer would particularly like me distributing their translation. Therefore, if I were to fill in the gaps, I would need for somebody to have already ported their script back to the Japanese game, and then separated the script files into multiple parts. In that situation, I could produce a patch which only replaced the Japanese text, and simply use that port as both a basis for working, and a prerequisite for installation. (And this is also blindly assuming that the game is patchable in the first place.)

This is theoretically possible, and not necessarily hard, but it's also a stupid amount of effort to go to just to avoid legal takedowns. Alternatively, if there were some way of doing the opposite, and porting the Japanese content into the translation, that could be more ideal. But given that they chose to localize the three-part version, I can't see a way of patching it without still distributing entire games' worth of MangaGamer translations.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think Ochiru Hitozuma has bland characters? (I tried asking this the other day but I guess the system ate it lol.)

Yes, very.

Anonymous asked:

Thank you so much for the Chronos patch. While I do like several of the individual scenes, the pirate route felt a bit rushed compare to the alien routes. Do you think this game was made with an anime adaptation in mind?

No. I think it just got bent out of shape thanks to rewrites.

I notice that they skipped over scenes that could have occurred in other routes, like Emina giving birth to the "Adult" aliens was skipped over in the Alien route, but was shown in the Pirate route. Anyways, I can't wait to see your next project. I will give my +1 request for it to be Tentacles and Witches.

Okay, noted.

Anonymous asked:

So what are you going to translate next and are you going to translate Injuu Kangoku ~DIRTY PRISON SHIP~. thank you for your hard work man

I don't know for sure. Things are tilting in the direction of Tsuma Netori, but the situation could change before I start work. I'm going to be on break until the end of February, so that I can catch up on some miscellaneous chores that have been piling up. I'm not likely to do Injuu Kangoku with its current number of requests, but that situation may change over time.

Anonymous asked:

Can I request for ATLACH=NACHA from alicesoft: https://vndb.org/v163 ?

Okay.

Anonymous asked:

Do you have a prefence towards bigger games or smaller ones?

I don't have a preference, per se. But of course, if a game is excessively long, then it's a significantly greater investment of my time and energy. I may be more reluctant to pick it up on that basis alone.

Anonymous asked:

Hottest Chronos character?

Unusually, I have an actual opinion on this, and it's Silvia.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think Ochiru Hitozuma has bland characters?

Yes, very.

Anonymous asked:

Amidahra Cat Police supplied some “Bonus Material” to go along with their patch for Annerose. I imagine its some post-game fluff but the link is dead. Any chance you would be in possession of it and could reupload it here?

No, sorry. I didn't download it at the time. I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

Anonymous asked:

Congrats on finishing Chronos! Have you settled on what the next game will be?

Not quite. I think I know, but there's still time for it to change.

Hyouryuu Kangoku Chronos English Translation Patch

This is an English language translation patch for Black Lilith’s 2014 title, Hyouryuu Kangoku Chronos.

If you discover a translation error, typo, etc., please get in touch so that the patch can be amended.

Hyouryuu Kangoku Chronos can be purchased on a number of Japanese software download stores, such as dlsite. Please remember to support the original developers, and anyone who might officially license this game in the future.

(Misc. release notes — with spoilers)

Current patch version: 1.00

Download patch

As usual, there are a few things to talk about with this release. Significant spoilers follow. There's no bonus content or anything, because they never made any, so you can feel free to ignore this unless you have an interest in unimportant crap.

First of all, I want to make a minor note about military ranks. I translated the ranks of the characters according to the ranking schemes of different branches of the military: i.e., navy, army, air force, etc. At the suggestion of a commenter here, I was briefly going to standardize them all as US Marine ranks (which the actual US Space Force seems to have adopted). But in practice, that didn't feel like it was working. Given how often they were spoken in dialogue, some of the ranks seemed too awkward to use, especially "Second Lieutenant Claire".

Secondly, the game has some consistency issues. The adolescents are constantly stated to have "countless" legs, which is an odd way of saying "four". There are minor continuity errors between some scenes, like who's carrying Soiree at any given time. The guns are all laser weapons, except for the special spray guns that they make—and yet both of these types of gun take physical ammunition somehow.

The biggest inconsistency is the number of eggs that get laid at any one time. The game seems to change its mind at various points about whether the creatures lay one egg or several. Even in cases where there are clearly multiple eggs that get implanted and fertilized, it still only results in one baby. In fact, in the pirate route, there is a part where multiple eggs are laid in two holes, resulting in one child each, but then there are three babies in the next CG. The likely reason for this is that there are very few contextual clues in the script which would tell you whether "egg" is plural or not, so it would be easy for different writers, or the artist, to inadvertently assume different things.

The major thing I want to note is all the signs of rewriting. First, the pirate route: In the final product, you get locked into the pirate route by not taking Manuela's side during a choice. However, in the proper story, once Emina meets Hawkins, there are notes to the effect that making the wrong decision should put the player on course for the "betrayal" route. In other words: When Emina chooses to disclose important information to Hawkins, she makes him swear on his honour not to double-cross her. If she chooses to conceal it from him, then he's not bound by his code of honour, which would seemingly lead to him betraying her once he found out the aliens' weakness. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that the pirate route has been moved from this point, and reworked to fit the theme of Manuela turning traitor. Just look at how hastily Mother is inserted into the narrative and dealt with, compared to the alien route.

There are other major changes to the plot as well, and you can see this in the background CGs. Firstly, this one:

I've seen this background in the gacha games, but it goes conspicuously unused in this story. Despite all the attacks and deaths, there seem to be no scenes in corridors which contain this much bloodshed and destruction.

This background is used, but the script conveniently ignores the fact that the room's been trashed. The game treats it like it's just a bit dirty, as opposed to having clear signs of conflict.

This is meant to be the cockpit of the escape craft. Except that it blatantly isn't: It looks more like a storehouse. You can also see it in the background here:

This looks like it could be the escape craft, but according to the script, the background with this filename would have been used for Chronos's bridge. In the final product, they reuse the background from the communications room for the bridge. They also reuse CGs in other places, so one does wonder why some resources had to be recycled when others were completely discarded.

Anyway, that's about all I could find to talk about with this game. So I'll leave you with this observation: Nothing would ever have gone wrong if they had just put their helmets back on.

Anonymous asked:

Which of Asagi's potential "love interests" do you prefer, Edwin Black, Dogle, or Booker Walls?

It has to be Black by default, because who cares about the others?

Anonymous asked:

If you were to eventually get around to translating Tentacle and Witches would you also translate the Lilith-Izm04 and Lilith-Izm06 side stories and the TABA and RPGX scenes and mod it together like you did with TY2 patch release?

Also consider this a request for Tentacle and Witches.

I could put the gacha scenes in, but I'm not sure about the IZM games. At the very least, I would treat them as a separate project.

Anonymous asked:

Do you and other translators keep in contact in any form? such as to avoid accidentally translating the same game or get help with a project

I've coordinated with Run Q, Spidfan and YukikazeACute. Also some others who got in touch, looking to start Lilith game projects which have not (as yet) materialized. However, there are other people, like the ones who did Annerose and Kangoku Academia, who didn't bother giving me so much as a courtesy message to let me know about it.

Anonymous asked:

What do I do if ice is forming in my pussy?

Sounds like the auto-defrost function is on the blink. You'll have to get a man in.

Anonymous asked:

Which fictional character do you think you have you masturbated the most to?

I would guess probably Princess Peach. I'm assuming this because when I was a teenager, Mario would have had the most pornography of any pop culture thing I was familiar with at the time. Most other things, either I didn't give a shit about, or got diddly-squat in terms of Rule 34.

This question, and the next one, got accidentally delayed by a few days. It turns out that Google decided their own form submission emails were spam. Sorry about that.

Anonymous asked:

Hi there, could you please put links of all of your translated Taimanin RPGX scenes into the completed patches section so we can access them more easily? Sorry if this is too much of a hassle for you, but it can help people like me who want to download them. Thanks!

I'm afraid you'll have to just look around for them. I don't want to draw too much attention to their existence. Infini Brain hasn't DMCA'd me so far, but DMM's parent company has. The very old ones shouldn't be too difficult to find if you go into the archives.

Anonymous asked:

If you started translating a VN and suddenly another translator insist on translating it as well would you stop translating or would you say screw it and continue translating? Would you end up comparing your work as well?

That's sort of what happened with Taimanin Yukikaze. However, that was because somebody claimed to have already finished a translation, which they were purportedly trying to sell to a localizer. I put it on hold while I waited to see if that would materialize, and in the meantime, Red from YukikazeACute came along. Once he was working on it, I had to abandon my own project.

Anonymous asked:

Is it Carla, Cara, or Cala? I'm asking because vndb.org uses them all, though I believe RunQ's translation uses "Cara".

It's Cara. If you want a source on that, check this page on the official website.

Anonymous asked:

Where did you see people complain about the vampiric themes in Carla the Blood Lord being wasted?

I don't even remember saying that, let alone where I may have seen it.

Anonymous asked:

Have you decided on the next game?

Not officially, but I think it's going to be Tsuma Netori.

Anonymous asked:

Are there any hentai scenes in eroges that were hard for you to watch (though I guess "read" might be the better way to describe it)?

I can't think of one. Usually I get bored at the most.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think empress their production is so low because sei is afraid he will run out of king crimson album names?

The real answer is that Sei Shoujo is an über-perfectionist. He's up there with Rustle in terms of "Gee, those shower tiles in the background sure look detailed." That's why Starless had so many years' worth of delays, and the finished product contains scenes that take five straight minutes to skip past.

Anonymous asked:

What's your opinion on Space Pirate Sarah?

Never seen it.

Anonymous asked:

In reference to an earlier post: Would you consider maybe putting a link to where Run Q has their translations? It's really hard to search for their stuff.

Just look on VNDB.

Anonymous asked:

Referring to an earlier post, I think Chronos the Floating Battleship's patch is not in the list even though it is translated.

That's because the full thing's not out yet.

Anonymous asked:

Do you look forward to/keep an eye on new VN releases? Is there any VN you are looking forward to the release of?

No. I occasionally hear about games by coincidence, but I don't pay any particular attention to what's coming out.

Anonymous asked:

I would like to request a translation for Tentacles and Witches. If you were able to release a complete translation, do you think you could add in the extra stories of Lily from Lilith-Izm 04 and 06? I’ve noticed you were able to do that with other Lilith VNs.

I could, but I would probably consider the IZM games their own projects.

Anonymous asked:

Are you going to update your list of completed patches ? Cause I notice a few translated games are not on the list.

I'm pretty sure all of my own patches are listed. I'm not going to put Run Q's there, because I don't want people to think they're mine.

Anonymous asked:

Any chance you would be translating any Abalone Soft works. It's pretty sad that up to this point I have yet to even come across a paid translation.

As usual, the answer is: If enough people want it. It would help if you mentioned specific games. The list has way too many one-off requests for me to check if there are any on there already.

Anonymous asked:

Most beautiful Kangoku Senkan character in your opinion?

I don't think any of them are "beautiful", but I suppose the closest would be Maya.

Anonymous asked:

What is the meaning of life?

The worst Monty Python movie.

Anonymous asked:

Why do you think localization companies dont want you on board, because you dont make shit up but try to translate the source material accurately?

I genuinely don't think I'm good enough for it. I’ve heard vague things about what it takes to get a job in that industry. Things like admission tests where you have to be able to identify pop culture references, which I would frankly be in the dark about unless I were able to look them up. I can do the essential job of parsing and rephrasing decently, but I don't think I have enough knowledge to live up to a genuinely professional standard.

Of course, there are a lot of professionals who act as though they've never heard of standards in their lives, but that's a matter of attitude more than it is a matter of comprehension. Those people probably speak Japanese better than I do, but just don't give a shit about their jobs.

Anonymous asked:

if localization becomes more common, would you ever choose to work for those localization companies

I don't think they would want me.

Anonymous asked:

How about Orcsoft? I don't see many of their items getting localized, the art is high quality, and they're well-rated on VNDB and don't seem too samey (looking at you, Bishop). For instance, I'd toss a vote to "Jashin Shoukan -Inran Kyonyuu Oyako Ikenie Gishiki-".

The thing is, they are getting localized now. Virtually all of Fakku's catalogue so far consists of Orcsoft games. There have also been one or two other companies in the mix. There are a few games that I had been interested in doing, but I would be fairly surprised if they weren't picked up at some point.

Anonymous asked:

What happened to Seigi no Henshin Heroine o Sasaeru Ore to Aku no Onna Kanbu translation patch?

How would I know?

Anonymous asked:

Do you still watch kids' cartoons?

No. I never watched most kids' shows even when I was a child. While all the other kids were watching Yu-gi-oh, Spongebob and Dragonball Z, I was watching reruns of Murder, She Wrote. Isn't it amazing that I didn't have friends?

Anonymous asked:

Do you watch any shows/animes when you aren't translating? Any recommendations?

Not usually. I recently watched MagiPoka, after hearing that Wolf Girl With You's second batch of Never Ever content had actually released. It was decent. That aside, I watch very little television these days.

Anonymous asked:

Was the first translation request for Unreed Bonnie's scenes the first you ever heard of the character? If not, where did you first hear of her?

No. I'm aware of her because her unit is taking up space in my RPGX account. She used to be one of the few powerful science units I had, but I can't remember if I ever used her.

Anonymous asked:

Have you ever found yourself rooting for villains? (Also, I decided to put in +1 to Unreed Bonnie's scenes.)

No. I may like a character like Oboro, but I don't feel a need to side with them. They usually spend most of the game winning anyway.

Anonymous asked:

I will give my +1 to the Unreed Bonnie translation request. So Bonnie is a demon bounty hunter who captured by a witch, forced to be a brood mother and give birth to 20 tentacle monsters. After recovering from her mind break, Bonnie goes on a quest of revenge to hunt down and kill the witch along with her own monster children. That is such a good premise for a visual novel. Do you think Lilith-Soft will actually give more lore on their RPGX characters?

Yes, but just the ones that take their fancy. They've done a far better job fleshing characters out and integrating them into the world than with TABA, but only for the popular ones, or the ones that interest the writers.

Anonymous asked:

Dear Rattan,

I went bald at an early age (around 20 I had to face the music and shave it all off). Is there hope for me to ever start a romantic relationship? Or do I have to NTR some schoolboy?

Well, I mean, you could always wear a wig. In fact, if you got a woman's wig too, you could play all three parts and NTR yourself.

Anonymous asked:

Do you have a profession outside of translating games?

Yes, but it's way too specific to go into.

Anonymous asked:

Is there any vn you are interesting (personally) in tling?

There are a small number I've thought of, but mostly not tested. I'll probably never get to them. I have to keep working off the list, because every time somebody asks for something, I promise I'll make a note of it. There's no point in keeping track of the requests if I just ignore them and do whatever I want.

Are you just bored in vn?

I'm more bored with the selection of VNs that are left. Almost all of the popular or interesting Lilith games are done, and everything that isn't Lilith is getting localized.

Is there a chance you tl a Light Novel or maybe in a Manga?

I'll never do manga, unless there's a specific one that relates to a game I've done. I'm more open to light novels and web novels, but they tend to be extremely simplistic in comparison to VNs.

Anonymous asked:

If you ever consider doing any more RPGX scenes, can you translate the Unreed Bonnie scenes (the original scenes and maybe the Christmas scene if you want)?

If enough people want them. Although, there will probably be a localization by that point.

Anonymous asked:

When was the last time black lilith sparked joy in you?

I think that would be Oboro's first side story in TA0. That was the last time I can remember being eager to continue reading. It was mainly because I didn't care much about the watered-down, gacha-influenced world and story of TA0, but I was interested in the explanations of how it related to Black and the old universe.

Vulcan64 asked:

I just wanted to ask if you could add Boku no Elf Onee-san to the translation list. It looks like a fun vn to translate. Thanks for all the work you do translating the non-vanilla vns that Lilith has made.

Okay. It's in a decent position on the list now, actually.

Anonymous asked:

How do you feel about the suggestion list?

There's nothing to feel about it. It's just a list. If you mean that more in the sense of "what do I feel about the current state of it," then the answer would be: Bored. Apart from the couple of games that may or may not have translations that ever see the light of day, we're down to very nearly the bottom of the barrel. If you exclude those games, there's nothing left that has even a quarter as many requests as TY2 did when I stopped counting them.

(Could I see it?)

No.

From what I can see, you just translate what we ask for (and not to look a gift horse in the mouth per say) but does it ever bother you? Do you ever question our tastes in VN?

No. It does slightly annoy me that we're now into territory where I couldn't care less about the next game I do. That was the case with Ochiru Hitozuma as well, and I wound up being bored out of my mind.

Anonymous asked:

What would you say your typing speed is?

Far worse than it used to be. Mavis Beacon failed me.

Anonymous asked:

What part of translating a VN takes the most time? Is it the translating, implementing it into the VN itself, etc?

Editing. That's when you have to keep stopping to make (semi-final) decisions about how you're going to phrase things. There are always sentences that are too ambiguous, or long-winded, or simply don't work in English, and I can get stalled on them for unreasonable amounts of time.

Anonymous asked:

If black Lilith would make another VN. Would you prefer it to be part of their main series like taimanin or KS. Or a one shot like space pirate Sarah?

I think I've had enough of them focusing on Taimanin, especially as the gacha stuff bleeds into the VNs and drags them further and further towards mediocrity. It's been a while since we got a game that was in a genuinely different setting, or with a different theme or gimmick. Surely somebody among the writing staff must have had an idea for something they couldn't do in the RPGX setting.

Anonymous asked:

Heard anything from RunQ and whatever they were working on?

Not for a year or so. You should be able to find his email address in the readme files.

Anonymous asked:

Sorry for asking this out of the blue, but I was wondering where the Kangoku Senkan 3 translation patch was?

It's not on the list of completed patches, but I do remember getting to it before by finding the direct page via search.

That's no longer the case since that page was on Tumblr, and I was wondering if there's any way to get access to it again.

If not, that's fine. Either way, thank for your time and work!

It's here. It's not on the patch list because it's not one of mine.

Anonymous asked:

Do you think any Lilith characters are meant to be hated by the audience? If so, which ones?

Definitely the heroines in KS1 and 3. Apart from that, I'm not sure there's any intention to that effect.

Anonymous asked:

Do you dislike the anime adaptation of KS1 as much as the VN it's based on?

I've only seen it once, and I remember almost nothing about it.

One of the things I didn't like about the TA1 adaptation was that it lost all the nuance of the situation, and made it seem like Oboro was trying to turn Asagi into a slut for no reason other than lol porn. As I recall it, TA1's story is more about Asagi struggling to cope with constant torture and a situation that's spiralling out of control, until she eventually realizes that there is no way out apart from sacrificing something. You don't really get that with the adaptation.

KS1, on the other hand, is such an incredibly bare-bones story that I don't think any of those reservations apply. It's just a series of scenes with the tiniest thread of plot woven between them, and as such, I don't think you could do the story any harm. The one thing I do remember from the anime is the revelation that the heroines don't even remember Bogan, and have no idea who he is, or why he's getting revenge on them. That was a very good detail, which I wished they had put in the game. It emphasizes what a pathetic, insignificant and petty little man he is in that story.

Anonymous asked:

apparently hardcoreuniverse and hgame cinemas are selling videos of translated scenes for a variety of games including seigi no henshin, some empress games, etc. they dont make patches, just video walkthroughs with subtitles at the top. they have previews in their discord i think. how do u feel about this. im guessing theres multiple ulterior motives

Well, first of all, you definitely shouldn't be charging for translations. That's pretty scummy activity, especially considering that the work isn't even yours. It's like selling a bootleg DVD for profit.

Secondly, that is the stupidest possible way to translate a VN, especially because it means that your audience can't have any control over it. They can't play it by themselves, they can't read at their own pace, they can't go back and listen to a spoken line again, they can't change the audio or text box settings to their liking... There's no reason why you should want to watch a video of a scene, other than as a preview when deciding whether to play the game or not.

Also, I don't know how many games they may have done, but these days you have to watch out for the signs of edited machine translations. The major sign would be people producing too much too quickly, which indicates that they've done a minimal amount of work. If they happen to be one of those groups that put out at least one game every two months, then the odds are extremely high that you're dealing with a garbage translation that's just been cleaned up to look authentic. I know that some say machine translation is at a point where it can almost replace real translation, but trust me, it's not. It's better and more convincing than ever, but if you spend any amount of time testing out DeepL, you will see it make stuff up out of nowhere. It can get sentences completely wrong in every way, but still produce convincing outputs.

In fact, I just looked up this "hgamecinema", and one of the results was an RPGX video. The preview alone tells me that it's either machine translation or ESL (or both). Within just twenty seconds I can see the AI misunderstanding sentences. It's decent enough if you just want to go through the scene, but you definitely shouldn't be charging money for it.

Anonymous asked:

You think Lilith would ever make a VN again or just focus all their efforts on their gacha stuff?

It's always possible they would make another game, but their track record suggests otherwise. We're coming up on four years without a VN release.

Anonymous asked:

What's your new year's resolution?

Shred the evidence.

It's good to have attainable goals.
